Third Grade News Welcome parents and students! Can you believe that Christmas is just around the corner? I love this time of year (except for the cold weather)! It is a great time to remember our friends, family and all the things we have to be thankful for. This is always a fun and crazy time for everyone. Children become excited and sometimes this interferes with focus at school. Please help your child stay focused by reminding them to complete all assignments, homework and most importantly to always do their best! In Reading, we will continue our Poetry Unit. Your child will be learning about Cinquains, riddles, limericks, senses poems, and shape poems. We will also read "The Legend of the Poinsettia" and "Twas the Night Before Christmas". Students will bring home leveled readers as homework. In Math, we will focus on combinations and permutations. Students need tocontinue to study their multiplication tables every night. Students will also be bringing home Accelerated Math every night. It is important that your child shows their work on their AM.Students need to continue to practice counting money at home and telling time. Students should be able to recognize all coins and be able to add coins together or make change from a given amount. Students also need to practice telling time to the hour, half hour, and quarter hour. This will help when we learn about elapsed time later this year. In Social Studies, we are in our "Winter Holidays Unit". We will discuss major world holidays including Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Los Posadas. Please encourage your child to complete homework, read daily, and work towards their reading and math goals. Students should also study their Spelling words every night. Our Spelling this week will focus on Winter Holiday words. Spelling List for December 13-17
Students need to review these words each night with an adult. We will have our weekly Spelling test each Friday. In Writing, we will continue practicing cursive handwriting. Students are expected to write in cursive everyday. . --UPCOMING EVENTS-- Winter Break - December 22-January 2 Please remember to check your child's planner each day for important notes and homework assignments. Planners should be signed everyday. Students will bring home Friday Folders at the end of the week. Please check these for your child's classwork, important notes, and behavior charts. These Friday Folders also need to be signed every Friday and returned on Monday. We will continue to work on learning our classroom and school rules. CB Eller has started our behavior incentive plan. Students that are caught following CB Eller rules will be given stickers to display in the cafeteria with their name. These students will be rewarded. The prizes will be determined by playing Deal or NO Deal. Our classroom is in need of several items. If you would like to donate Clorox wipes, tissues, or gallon size baggies, it would be greatly appreciated!!! We hope to establish a student, parent, and teacher relationship to ensure that every child learns. Parents can contact me after school at 835-5640 or by email: gougel@wilkes.k12.nc.us. Thank you for all your support and we look forward to a great year! Mrs. GougeContinue to send in Soup labels, Box Tops, empty drink pouches and aluminum cans. These projects help support our school.
