We are into the 2nd quarter of school and the kids have really blasted off in the classroom.  They are learning daily and I am very proud of their accomplishments.  As we head into a very busy time of the year, please make sure you are checking in with your child and keeping up with our activities through the monthly newsletters and in all the notes that are being sent home.  I have listed below some of the curricular areas that we will be studying over the next month.

In Reading we will be working on the following target skills:

Sequencing

Comparing/contrasting

fluency

comprehension strategies

consonant and vowel blends

CVC patterns

consonant clusters

R controlled sounds

summarizing

In math we will be learning:

How to recognize numbers in a variety of ways

using ten and five frames

subtraction

addition

In writer's Workshop:

We will be focusing on adding details, stretching words, understanding a small moment story, stretching rather than drawing, and story endings.

Science/Social Studies

We will study Habitats in science and we will study people around the world and various countries in social studies
