      Welcome

      to

      Mrs. Sugg’s Class

I am very excited about the start of the 2009-2010 school year!  I welcome each of you and know that we will have a rewarding year if we focus on SUCCESS!!

The following classroom expectations and procedures are an essential part of being successful. So, please read them carefully!!

Grading Procedures

·         50% Homework/Classwork

o   10% - Homework assignments checked for completion and effort (these must be done on the day due or no credit will be given.)  For students who are absent, ABSENT will be entered in snapgrades and it will not count against them.  However, they should still complete the assignment for practice purposes.

o   40% - Assignments graded based on number correct

·         50% Tests/Quizzes/Projects

o   25% Tests -All tests will be announced.

o   25% Quizzes -Annnounced and unannounced will be given regularly.

§  All quizzes must be taken even if a student was absent during instruction.  It will still help to assist in knowing what skills are missing.  However, the lowest quiz grade will be dropped at the end of each grading period.

Homework/Classwork and Study Expectations

  • Write your homework in your assignment notebook daily.
  • Complete all homework assignments by their due date.
  • Take time to review math concepts daily!!
  • Be neat!!
  • Put the proper heading on all papers.

Late Assignments

  • Homework assignments checked for completion/effort WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE.
  • Assignments graded for percentage correct will be accepted for partial credit after the due date.  However, it will be the student’s responsibility to turn the assignments in to the late box located in the class.

Absences

When a student is absent, it will be his/her responsibility to get information/assignments missed.  Please make arrangements within a week of the absence to stay after school to take tests/quizzes that must be made up.

Notebook Organization

An organized math notebook will be a very important tool for your math success.  You will receive a quiz grade for your math notebook organization each six weeks.

Your notebook should be divided into the following sections:

Front Page:  Notebook cover sheet with your name, teacher’s name, and class period

Dividers should be as follows:

·         Label Tab 1: Keepers

o   You will be asked to keep any handouts that will be needed throughout the year in this section.  The first item in this section should be this class letter.

·         Label Tab 2: Notes and Daily Work

o   Behind this tab we will keep notes, examples, investigations, vocabulary, journal writings/reflections and homework practice.  We will keep track of this section with a table of contents.

·         Label Tab 3: Assessments

o   As papers are graded and returned they should be placed behind this tab and kept in order by date.

Also, we will be creating a method to keep track of any study tools that we create throughout the year.  You will learn more about these later.

What do I do when………?

I need to sharpen my pencil

Hold it up in your hand and I will acknowledge at first opportunity.  (Nonverbal cue avoids distracting others.)

I have something to throw away

Keep it at your desk until class ends and drop it in the trash when leaving

I need to use the restroom

We will go to the restroom several times each day, so make wise use of those times to avoid having to go during class time.

I have to leave class

Get teachers permission FIRST, use a pass and sign out before leaving.

Character Reminders

Take RESPONSIBILITY for your own actions.

Treat others with RESPECT at all times!

Make CHOICES that you can be proud up!!

Show that you CARE about others by showing kindness and your school by helping keep it clean!

Don’t be satisfied with less than your best EFFORT!!

Your HONESTY enables others to TRUST you!!
