Dear Parents/Guardians:
March is National Nutrition Month.  Remember that “You are What You Eat”, so try to eat healthy foods and drinks.  The incidence of childhood and adult obesity has skyrocketed in the United States.  There is a new standard of what kinds and amounts of foods we should be eating to obtain our best health. It is called “My Pyramid”. It also contains information about physical activity, which also contributes to our well being.  I’ve included links on this webpage (see below) for parents and children so you can learn more about good nutrition and exercise and the many health benefits of them.
For adults, there are places to get help with making healthy food choices and meal plans.  I got help with my eating plan and I’ve lost 25 pounds so far- and you still can have occasional “treats” to eat.  I also make exercise a daily routine.   You only need a minimum of 30 minutes /day for an adult to get long term health benefits from it.  They suggest 60 minutes/day of exercise for children.  Try and start today to make a plan for healthier food habits for your whole family.  You will have more energy, the children will do better in school (breakfast is extremely important to eat before school), and your bodies will stay healthy for longer quality of life and protection from diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and others.
