Day 38 Nov 18

Do Now: Prepare for test
1.Take up research paper.
2. Late grade for Memory work
3. Study for your CT test.  It is going to be detailed.  Study all the notes we have gone over plus the two tales.
4. Any late work before the holiday.
5. Portfolios will hold off until next nine weeks.
6. Turn in third project on CT.
7. Extra credit for pictures on CT characters.
8. Have a wonderful holiday!!  Be safe and wear your seatbelt!

Day 36 & 37, Nov 12 & 14  I had my grandbaby and he is wonderful.

Do Now: ACT  I plan to be back on Tuesday if all goes well.
1.Remember that Tuesday is the last day for bonus on the research paper.  Go by the library and get a clearance slip.  You will need to take them your Works Cited page.  Any issues, let me know immediatley
2. Memory work:  the first 18 lines of CT p 104 or 105.  Since I am so happy about my grand son, I will give you this weekend to learn it and not count off if you recite it  the first thing on Tuesday. 
3. Start studying for your CT test.  It is going to be detailed.  Study all the notes we have gone over plus the two tales.
4. Make sure you have turned in both the quote and the essay comparing/contrasting the two CT characters.
5. Two portfolios will be due on Tuesday; two more will due on Thursday.

Day 35, Nov 10

1.I have put your rough draft grades on SAM.  I will change the grade as corrections, turnitin, etc are completed.
2. Begin working on your memory work:  the first 18 lines of CT p 104 or 105.  This is due any time this week.  Please do not all wait until the last day to recite!!
3. Continue intro for prologue of CT -- think about quotes on each character.
4. Manuscript CT project is due with your favorite quote.  (or you can turn in the essay; one will be due on Wednesday and the other will be due on Friday which is also when your memory work is due.)

Do Now: Prepare to introduce yourself to the class as your CT character
1.If you haven't turned in your research paper, please complete ASAP.  This includes turnitin.com.  I can not check your paper if you have not done this.  Make sure everything is included in your packet!!
2. Begin working on your memory work:  the first 18 lines of CT p 104 or 105.  This is due any time next week.  Please do not all wait until the last day to recite!!
3. Write your one liner for your character and prepare to share this info with the class.

1.Research paper due.  Bring everything!!!!  You must turn in everything to me from notecards to sourcecards to copies of all your research.  It will be easier to bring everything just in case I need it. 
2. You will also need your rough draft that was peer edited by two people along with the peer edited sheet filled out.
3. Turn in Canterbury Tales portfolio if  you did not do so during the computer lab.  We will have only three this week instead of four.

1.You should have 3 source cards when you walk in the library.  Halfway through the block I will want to see your five notecards for a grade.
2. You did a good job in the library.  Your first day of research is normally hard and I appreciate your hanging in there.  Remember to place your bookbags in the right place and not to leave the area messy.  We have two more days to work in the library.  Let's make the best of it.

Do Now: Unit 2: Sentence Completeness. Run on Sentences. 
1. Individual book tests will be first thing when you walk in.  These tests are 20 equal matching with one discussion.
2. Group work is due.  Make sure you email your editor your work:  study guide paragraph that includes answers to four test questions; four test questions with answers and page or chapter numbers; magazine article with 2 quotes and 2 pictures.  Editors, make sure you compile this for the study guide for the class.  If I need to make copies for the entire class, I will need the original by 8:00 on Monday morning (Friday would even be better.)  If you want me to make copies, it would probably be a good idea to call me and set up when you will get the sheet to me.  Also, editors, email me the questions from your group so that I can start typing the test.
3. Completed magazine will be turned in on Wednesday, but individuals will present his/her work on Monday.  We will review the material and share the final product on Wednesday.
4. Two portfolios are due are Wednesday; after this, you should only have the reflective template due with your entire portfolio for the unit grade Tuesday week.

2. Four test items are due from your novel.  Put the answer and the page number in parenthesis following the question.  Again, this would be nice if you would email them to me.

1. Novel test.  After I finish reading them this weekend and making the tests out, I might post some hints here.  It will probably be 25 matching.
2. Beowulf essay is due.  Make sure you put the rubric in the sleeve, also.
3. Bring your novel to class!!  We will begin our group activities and it is imperative that you have both the novel and the handout that I gave you earlier.
4. Complete the ACT handout.  I might take it up or we might just go over this in class.
5.  Any late work or questions, please let me know.  Hopefully I will have everything graded.  If you need a new progress report, let me know.

Day 13, Sept 10  Do Now: Unit 2: Sentence Completeness. Fragments. Write rules 10a and 10b.  Work Ex 1, 341-342.

1. Beowulf test.  Make sure you review study guide and powerpoints that we went over in class.  Can you compare and contrast the three battles described in the epic?  After Beowulf arrives, how many Geats does Grendel kill?  Do not come in class and ask me these questions.  Just make sure you know the answers.
2. Beowulf essay handout:  Complete three hero characteristics with two quotes each.  If you turn your essay in early, I will give you bonus points.  It will be due on Tuesday.
3. Bring your novel to class!!  We might have class time to read if everyone brings it to class.  Remember to be reading on your novel.  Your tests will be on Tuesday.  They will be objective tests.  I think I will have the essay questions for the unit test on all of the novels from the presentations.  Your essay will count half and the objective part will count half.  The novel project will be due on September 24 but I am going to look for 2 groups to volunteer to do theirs early.  If someone does this, it will make it easier before the nine weeks test.
4. We will discuss ACT handout on Friday, but make sure you bring it to class each day in case we have a spare moment to work on it.

Day 12, Sept 8  Extra credit must be turned in by Friday

Do Now: Usage test:  Make sure you have 7 exercises and all rules copied.
1. Study all rules for the Usage test:  who/which, where/that, inferred/ implied, fewer/ less, effect/ affect, respectively/respectfully, nor/or, less/fewer, credible/credulous, illusions/allusions, amount/number, that/those, negatives
2. Correct 250-500 word essay.  Turn in two rough drafts and corrected typed essay in a sleeve.  Make sure you follow MLA style (remember to change your heading) and the guidelines on the rubric.
3. Literary term quiz 1-40.  I will give this to you at 8:40.  If you are doing poorly on these quizzes, make sure you make flashcards to help you.
4. We will discuss ACT handout on Friday, but make sure you bring it to class each day in case we have a spare moment to work on it.
5. Learn to use your time wisely!!  Bring your novel to class each day.  You will need to be through reading this by September 16; we will have a quiz then.  Your project will be due on September 24.

Day 11, Sept 4  REMEMBER EXTRA CREDIT --  Celtic Fest Do Now: Final review of Glossary of Usage; work Post-test p 618-619.  

1. Complete college Common Application
2. Write 250-500 word essay.  Have someone proof this and turn in rough draft and corrected typed essay.  Make sure you follow MLA style and the guidelines on the rubric.
3. Complete ACT practice 114-118 handout (finish sentence fragments).
4. Bring your novel to class each day.  You will need to be through reading this by September 16; we will have a quiz then.  Your project will be due on September 24.
5. Looking at our calendar, I have decided that on the portfolio entries for this nine weeks, instead of four entries on numbers 3, 4, 5, & 6, you will not have to turn in but THREE.  Two entries will due on Wednesday.
6. Discuss Beowulf; test on Friday.

3. Literary terms 1-20 quiz on Thursday.  Please learn them now because you will be tested on them each week.
4. Check out novels from First 9 weeks and decide which one you would like to read as our group activity.  Have a first and second choice.  You will get to choose as long as everyone does not choose the same one; the groups must be equal.  Write your choices in order on a sheet of paper and turn this into me.  We will divide the groups up evenly from this paper, even if we have to draw sheets.
5. We will go to Room 108 to do more research on Beowulf.
6. This research will be due next Tuesday in class.

Day 7, Aug 22Do Now: Glossary of Usage, copy rules bad-good, work Ex 2, p 605-606 in red grammar book.  Will check in class.

In paragraph form, discuss facts learned from the video segments on the development of the English language (at least 5 facts).? Remember to study the terms alliteration, caesura, heroic epics, William the Conqueror, 1066, Battle of Hastings, and pretty much everything on the Study Guide that I gave you.

1. Two portfolios are due in two different plastic sleeves.? Remember to insert header with last name, block, date, and category.? Also you need to make sure your portfolio notebooks have the 10 dividers.
2. Study Anglo-Saxon notes and intro in book p 2-16.? Quiz on this.
3. Make sure you check out the ACT answers I gave you on the English and Reading tests.? I did not take a grade on this now but I may come back later on and give it to you again.

1. Remember to sign up for schoolnotes.com; the first class that is totally entered will be rewarded--help your classmates out
2. Invite your parents to Open House on Monday.? We have a fun activity for them to do.
3. Complete the ACT reading test.? Time yourself and see if you are completed after 35 minutes.? You may take longer than 35 minutes, but our goal is to be able to finish it before we take the test again.
4.?Turn in your vocabulary work on The Life of Pi if you did not do so during class.
5. Begin work on your portfolios for next week.??On the top right side you need your last name and category that it goes under.? You may give each entry a title, it can be double spaced, and you can use a 14 size font.? Each entry will need a plastic sleeve.
6. Begin studying for the literary term quiz.? You will be responsible for these words for the entire year.
