We finished our DRA, reading assessment testing April 1st and everyone did good. Thank you for reading at home with your child and doing take home readers. We are starting a new theme: Special Friends, theme 9 Comprehension Strategy is Monitor and Clarify, ask "Does this make sense? What does this mean?' Comprehension skill is Noting Details, ask "What are the small pieces of information the author is including in the story or pictures to help you understand the characters and events. Phonemic Awareness is on delete and substitute. Phonics/Word structure is on suffixes -ed, -ing (CVDe, dbl consonants) Math: Chapter 13 starts volume 3 with time and calendar. We will begin by estimating activities that about one minute. We will say and write the time on a clock using the hour and and the minute hand. Please help your child with learning to tell time. Week 29 of our Essentials notebook: For our Writing Workshop will begin a new unit: Writing Nonfiction Stories, starting with "How-to booklets" and giving instructions.
