Here's a look at the week ahead:

Language Arts:

     This week, we will continue Theme 4: “Friends Together”. We will learn about action words by drawing and labeling an action word and also by acting them out. Our phonemic awareness activities this week will be blending phonemes again – I’ll say the sounds /c/ /a/ /n/ and the kids will blend the sounds together to make the word “can”. The kids caught on pretty well to it last week – try it at home with simple words. Our letter of the week is “V”.  We will meet an Alphafriend named Vinnie Volcano and learn a song about him. Our stories this week are: The Lion and the Mouse, My Dad and I, and Friends Help.  We will review our high-frequency words “I”, “see”, “my”, “like”, “a” and add “to” to our Word Wall. We will continue blending the sounds in short “a” words. We’ll practice the sound that “a” makes and learn to make words with “a” in the middle. Please bring in something that starts with the letter V on Friday!

Math:

We’ll continue Chapter 5: Plane Shapes and Fractions this week. We’ll review squares and triangles and make patterns with shapes. We will combine shapes to make larger ones – for example, we’ll put two triangles together to make a diamond. We will learn about symmetry and equal parts of an object.

Religion:

Chapter 10 in our Religion book is called: God Helps Us to Discover. We will learn about the five senses and that God gave us our senses to help us discover more about His world. We’ll learn a song called “God Gave Me My Senses” and take a walk around the school, using our senses to observe things around us. We will have Mass on Friday at 1:15.

Science/Social Studies:

This week, we will continue our unit on the Pilgrims. We will read from a book called If You Sailed on the Mayflower. On Monday, we’ll sample some foods that the Pilgrims would have eaten on the Mayflower. We’ll learn about the Mayflower Compact and make our own Kindergarten Compact for everyone to sign. We will learn what Pilgrim children did – both the work they had to do and what they did for fun.

Reminders:

     - Please label the inside of your child’s shoes. When the weather is cold, they will be going over to the Gym for recess and taking off their shoes (to protect the Gym floor). We have already had some confusion over shoes, since some of them are similar in style. Thanks for your help!

    - The Chinese Auction is this week. Tickets are 25 cents each or 5 for a dollar. There are lots of fun prizes to be won! The money made goes to buy gifts for children at Providence Family Support Center. We will have our buddies help us put names on the tickets on Thursday afternoon. Names will be drawn mid-morning on Friday.

    - Thursday is the Thanksgiving feast at noon. Since lunch is a little later than usual, please send in a small snack for your child to eat on Thursday morning. Thanks!

    - Swim class is on Tuesdays and Gym is on Thursdays.
