Here's a look at the week ahead:

Language Arts:

We will finish Theme 3: “We’re A Family” this week. We’ll learn about action words (verbs) and order words. Our new story this week is: The Amazing Little Porridge Pot. We’ll also review previous stories Tortillas and Lullabies and Shoes from Grandpa. Our letter of the week is N. We’ll learn its sound, practice printing it, and recognize words that start with “n”. This week’s Alphafriend is Nyle Noodle. We will practice reading and recognizing the words on our Word Wall – “I”, “see”, “my” and “like”. As you are reading stories to your child, see if he/she can find these words in the story. Show-n-Tell will be something that starts with the letter N on Friday. We will have a test on Theme 3 on Friday.

Math:

This week, we continue Chapter 4: Comparing Sets, Data and Graphing. We will sort and graph objects by their size, make a graph of our favorite snacks, survey our friends and make a graph of our favorite playground activities, and complete a review booklet on Friday. Please have your child bring in a stuffed animal on Monday. We are going to sort the animals by their sizes and make a graph of it. Please continue to practice the number rhymes and formation of the numbers – the kids are doing a great job, but old habits are hard to break!

Religion:

Chapter 8 is called “Jesus Teaches”. We’ll learn that God sent Jesus to teach his people what is right and wrong. We will say a prayer, asking Jesus to teach us to be kind and loving. Sister Cathy will be with us on Tuesday to share more stories with us. Mass will be on Friday at 1:15.

Science/Social Studies:

This week, we’ll continue learning about the Pilgrims. Last Friday, we sampled a Pilgrim “meal” – cheese, crackers, dried beef, and water. We took a vote to see who liked the foods and if we would have liked being a Pilgrim! We’ll read some stories about the Pilgrims and learn about the Mayflower Compact. We will create our own Kindergarten Compact and everyone will sign it.

Reminders:

-  Our swim day is Tuesday and our Gym day is Thursday.

-  Don’t forget to return Library books on Wednesdays.

-  Tuesday is Pizza Hut night!

-  There is no school on Wednesday because of Parent-Teacher conferences. Please check the slip that came home with your child on Friday to see your conference time. I’m looking forward to talking with you on Wednesday.

-  Our school is having a food drive to benefit the North Hills Food Bank. It will run from November 5^th- 17^th. Please send in any non-perishable items. Thanks!
