Kindergarten
Come on in and
have some fun!
What will you have learned
when the year is done?

For the past couple of weeks we were listening, singing and playing loud and soft/quiet music.  The students did a terrific job!

The last two full weeks of January we are working on singing, playing and recognizing high and low sounds.  I expect I will see and hear great things from these young musicians!

First Grade
In first grade we are learning to read simple rhythms using quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests.  Students, you are doing a really amazing job!  The next step is to try writing these music symbols and then put them into patterns.

Second Grade
We are also working on reading and writing rhythms.  We have learned 4 new pieces of music.  Last week we began reading the rhythms of these songs.  This week we will begin writing the symbols we have read.  These are quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests.  Once they get the hang of writing these symbols, we will try adding some words to write our own rhymes.

Third Grade
We are also working on reading and writing the music symbols we have talked about in the first and second grade sections, but we are adding half notes and half rests to the mix.  With their new writing skills, they will use some information from their regular classrooms to create a short poem/song.  Once they are comfortable writing rhythms we will begin adding pitches (high and low sounds.)  I believe the results will be amazing!

Fourth Grade
We are also working on reading and writing rhythms.  Once we have completed our writing lessons we will begin reading music and playing recorder.  I have enough recorders for all fourth graders.  Each student will be assigned a recorder to be used in class only.  They will not bring these home and they will not share them with other students.  Introducing the recorder this year will allow them to be well prepared to play for the NC Symphony Concert next year.
