Kindergarten
For Black History Month we are listening to songs from Africa and singing Bye 'n Bye, a spiritual.  The influence of spirituals is found in all kinds of American music including Gospel, Rhythm and Blues, and Country among others.  We are also learning what high and low sounds are by playing the step bells and singing. Everyone is doing a great job!

Come on in and have some fun!
What all will you have learned
when the year is done?

See you soon,
Tiffany Garcia

First Grade

Encore!  Encore!

First graders are learning about different kinds of music associated with Black History.  The rhythms and song patterns from Africa are woven into many styles of American music including Spirituals, Gospel and believe it or not, opera.  Just think of Porgy and Bess and the famous song "Summertime".  We will explore different styles of music throughout the month.

Second Grade

We are exploring different styles of music from our African-American heritage by singing and listening to selections in various styles including a cappella choral singing.

Third Grade
For Black History Month we are exploring different genres and styles of music that are a part of American history and culture through singing and listening.

Fourth Grade
African-American culture has given us many different types of songs and has influenced many styles of American music including, but not limited to Jazz, Rock, Pop, R&B, and even classical.  We are studying the musical roots that are woven so beautifully into America's musical experience.
