Welcome Back to School!
I've highlighted some things below to update you on our classroom. Some points remain on this page as they are continually important throughout the school year.
**Your support at home is valued GREATLY ! It takes two components (home support and school support) to have a successful school year.
**Please make sure to look over and return your child’s Friday Folders. Ask them about their work and go over any weak areas that you may notice.
**Sign Agendas daily!!
READ, READ, READ!!
Vocabulary development is so important not only in the primary grades, but also in the intermediate grades as students begin to develop more enhanced reading and writing skills. Exposure to varied text and frequent reading is key to developing these literacy skills. Students are responsible for 20 minutes of reading daily and completing reading log.
HOMEWORK:
I try not to overload students with homework. However homework is essential for practice and repetition, especially in math. Please make sure to go over your child's homework and make sure they understand the assignments. A good way to monitor understanding is to ask your child to explain their work or the process that they followed to arrive at their answer. Daily HW will be given in math, reading and spelling
MATH:
Please practice multiplication and division facts at home nightly.
We do weekly math center work that encompasses all math areas to keep our math skills sharp.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
We read a variety of text (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, fables) in our 4th grade curriculum. Writing workshop will be continued in 4th grade as we get ready for the On Demand Writing Prompts.
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES:
These content areas are integrated into our Centers in Language Arts. Mrs. Vopcelli will be covering North Carolina history in Social Studies. Our science curriculum will cover animals, rocks/minerals, and digestion.
TECHNOLOGY:
Take time to check out the links below. I've listed a couple websites that have math games for your student to play. The Promethean board will be used daily by students and teacher to incorporate this technology into the students' learning. Students will be creating some really cool projects to showcase our learning. We will continue Type To Learn, a technology program that teaches proper keyboarding skills. As your child is at home using the computer, please encourage use of "home keys" (a,s,d,f,j,k,l,;).
Responsibilities of Parents:
1) Students should complete homework with the guidance of an adult.
2) Set a regular, uninterrupted study time each day.
3) Establish a quiet, well-lit area.
4) Monitor your child’s organizational skill.
5) Check to make sure they have organized their daily assignments in their homework folder
6) Help your child work to find the answer, do not simply give him/her the answers.
7) Be supportive when your child gets frustrated with a difficult assignment.
8) Keep me informed about any concerns.
Responsibilities of Students:
1) Write down all howework assignments in your agenda.
2)Bring everything you need to complete homework assignments.
3) Set aside a regular time for studying.
4) Find a quiet, well-lit study area.
5) Work on homework independently whenever possible, so that it reflects the your ability.
6) Produce quality work.
7) Make sure assignments are done according to the given instructions and completed on time.
Again, thanks for all you do at home to support your student's academic progress. I look forward to your continued support throughout the school year.
