Welcome to Miss Tatum & Mrs. Marshall's Kindergarten Website!

HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER VACATION!

Important Reminders:

  • If you have a child that is or will be 5 years old by August 31, 2011, it is time to register him/her for kindergarten.  Please contact Woodleaf Elementary School as soon as possible.  You will need to get an enrollment packet and fill out the information in order to enroll your child for the 2011/2012 school year.
  • While you are at Woodleaf, please be sure to sign your child up for an AGS Screening Time in August!

You will be sent a postcard reminder of your child's AGS Screening time closer to the actual date.  On that reminder card you will also be told which of the 3 staggered days your child is scheduled to come to Woodleaf.  Please plan to have childcare available for all 3 days of staggered entry (August 25th, 26th and 29th) so you will be prepared for the other 2 days of staggered entry.

One of the best things that you can do to get your child ready for his/her kindergarten experience is READ, READ, READ!  At Woodleaf, we ask that you read with your child for at least 20 minutes each night.  While reading, here are a few pointers to help you help your child...

  • Take a picture walk.  Show your child the pictures in the story and have him/her predict what is going to happen in the story.
  • While reading, have him/her predict what he/she thinks will happen next.
  • Have your child find letters or words that he/she recognizes.
  • Have your child point out the front of the book, the back of the book and the title of the book.
  • Have your child show you where to start reading and point to the words as you read them.  Make sure your child is pointing to the words that you are reading and not going too slow or too fast across the page.  This helps with one-to-one word correspondence.
  • Point out periods (.), question marks (?), exclamation marks (!), and quotation marks (" ") while reading.

Also, work with your child on writing his/her name legibly.  This will help us and him/her out tremendously during the first few days of school!

If you have any questions or concerns about your chld's entry into kindergarten at Woodleaf, please do not hesitate to contact the school or one of the kindergarten teachers!
