Rowan will be 3A this year. We are very excited about our upper
classmen that are coming back as well as the wrestlers from Erwin
Middle school that are rising freshman.

120 Mark Almeida 2nd state runnerup lost in the finals 10-9, 1st period down 9 to 3, 2nd period tied the score 9 to 9 what heart, guts he showed, 3rd period on top rode his opponent for 1 minute, with 50 seconds left his opponent escaped and Mark did not get the takedown lost 10 to 9. He joins a large group of ERHS wrestlers that are runner-ups that I would love to have back on the team.

113 Jason Deutsch 5th place lost his 1st match and could of called it quits, came back and won the next 3 against some very tough competition to get on the podium.   In the cons semis had the match won with 30 seconds left, but forgot one thing finish the match, ended up losing and won by a pin to take 5th place.

State Placers

**All of the wrestlers listed below placed in states because of hard work, intensity to their craft, and a distaste to losing.

Mark Almeida-2012 120 State 3A runnerup lost in the finals 10-9, . He joins a large group of ERHS wrestlers that are runner-ups that I would love to have back on the team.

Jonathan Brown-1992 State 3A Champion 103, 1993 State 3A 3rd place 112, 1994 ranked #1 in the state 119 suffered season ended injury state tournament.

•Jeremy Cauble- 93-1994 State 3A 3rd place heavyweight. Another great East Rowan heavyweight.

Nick Cornacchione-Junior 2011 103 pound 5th place lost semis by 1 and consolation semis by 1 then defeated his opponent handily for 5th/6th place.  Has worked extremely hard wrestles year round.

_Chris Demitraszek 2010 3A State Championships 4th place the smallest heavyweight in the tournament made it to the semifinals. Another great East Rowan Heavyweight

•Greg Fox-placed 1997 3A State Runner-up 140 12th grade year. Moved from New York at the start of his senior year. Record his senior year North Carolina 45-2.

•Bobby Hedenskog-1992 State 3A Champion 135 pounds-State qualifier 3 years.

•Lonnie Hinceman- 1992 State 3A Runnerup Heavyweight. Lonnie only wrestled 1 1/2. Simply Amazing.

•Hunter Land-State 2002 3A State Champion 171, State 2001 3A State Runner-up 160 11th grade. Senior year 36-3. Dutch Meyers Award winner.

•Travis Lindsay- 1996 145 3A State Champion, 1995 140 3A State Runnerup


•Danny Misenheimer-2000 State 3A Champion HWT his senior year. Placed in states 3 years in a row. 1998 10th-3rd, 1999 11th-2nd, 2000 12th-1st. Best overall record in the state of North Carolina his senior year. 1998 National Cadet Champion Pontiac, Michigan. 2000 Wrestler of the year State of North Carolina. Overall Record 173-13.

•Josh Patch 2007 4A 215 pound 5th place state championships. Pinned opponent from Mt. Tabor that he had lost to four straight times, never give up!! Josh has a scholarship at Wingate for football. Good Luck!!

*Aaron Plyler 2009 3A 130 pound 6th place; 2008 3A 119 pound 4th place state 3A;- State qualifier Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior year. Most Oustanding wrestler for East Rowan HS all 4 years.

• Gavin Proctor-1999 3A State Champ 160 11th East Rowan H.S. 1998 State 3A runner-up 152 10th grade AL Brown H.S.. 1998 10th 2nd, 1999 11th 1st. Ranked top 10 in the nation 12th grade year. National Triple Crown Award Winner.
Overall record 130-7.

Kory Shaffer- 2011 135 pound 3rd place dramatic come from behind win in the 3rd round consolations, down 3-0 with 16 seconds left to beat his opponent 5-3, then defeated two #1 seeds to take 3rd place.  A terrific job to a terrific young man. Mighty Mouse. 2011 Dutch Meyer award winner.
