THANKS AGAIN TO ALL THOSE WHO TURNED IN THE HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENT PACKET.  YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN WORKED HARD AND THAT HARD WORK HAS BEEN NOTICED.  PLEASE CONTINUE TO WORK ON THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AS WELL AS WORKING ON READING WITH AND LISTENING TO YOUR CHILDREN AS THEY READ BOOKS (YES, I DID SAY THEM READ TO YOU.  THEY CAN DO IT!).  ALSO, KEEP IN MIND THE MANY RESOURCES THAT ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE TO ENHANCE AS WELL AS PROVIDE REFRESHING IN SKILL AND SUBJECT AREAS.

MATH
  • numbers (identify 0-31)
  • patterns
  • matching and sorting

ILA
  • story elements (character, setting, plot, main idea,...)
  • comparing and contrasting of stories

  1. Paperwork:  Any and all papers sent home that need to be signed should be signed and returned promptly (this applies to Homework Sheet and Communication folder items)
  2. ***Labeling: Make sure to label your child's items (gym sweatshirt, sweater, lunch bag, etc.)***
  3. Money: Any money sent in MUST be in an envelope labeled with the child's name and what it is for (example: John Smith-- pretzel money)

  1. Monthly Family Projects: handouts will be sent home at the beginning of each month and project is due by the end of each month
  
2.  Service Project: Book Drive to benefit "Philadelphia Reads" (tentatively scheduled for February, 2012)

  3. Attendance Policy (lateness or absence: contact the school by phone or e-mail teacher; if student will be out for more than 3 days a doctor's note and phone call are needed; early dismissal: contact teacher and school by phone, note, or e-mail ahead of time)
  4. Behavior Policy (4 Steps format: verbal reprimand, loss of recess minutes, phone call, and parent-teacher meeting)
  5. Homework Policy (homework is to be done Monday through Thursday evening; 10-15 minutes of homework is assigned each night; parent/guardian is to sign "Homework signature sheet")

EVENT

January 17th:  Show and Tell
Students are to bring in a picture or display of pictures of themselves that shows how they have grown and changed over the past few years.  This is related to our ILA/ELA Unit 3 theme of "Growing and Changing."  Please make sure to label any items being sent it so that they can easily be returned.
