Reading/Phonics The students have reading 5 days a week and phonics 4 days a week. Reading assessments are given every Friday during a typical week. After 5 lessons, the students have a unit test on the skills they learned during that unit. This website has information only for my reading group. Please consult your child's reading teacher's page for their work and other information. ![]() Reminder: This page is only for students in my reading/phonics group. All homework must be signed by a parent/guardian. Students may not go ahead in the homework as it pertains to the day's lesson. Week of May 21 Due to the shortened week this week and only having reading class twice last week, we will be finishing up the lessons in our theme of "playtime" this week. We will continue to discuss the play "Pushing Up the Sky." The assessment will be on Wednesday. We will read an interview with the author, Joseph Bruchac and discuss what might go on in an interview. We will examine nonfiction and fiction elements. In phonics we will continue to work on vowel pairs. The Nancy Drew test can stay home. The students enjoyed this story. They are working on a writing assignment in which they invent their own flavor of ice cream. We have some great flavors brewing! Homework Monday -- page 213 #'s 1 and 2 Reread "Pushing Up the Sky." Tuesday -- assessment today p.b. page 180 (problem and solutions) Wednesday -- no homework Thursday -- Field Day :) Thank you for your co-operation ! Miss Gordon ![]() |
