Welcome to 2nd Grade!
Mrs. Smith’s Class Mission Statement:
I pledge today to do my best
in reading, math and all the rest.
I’ll be responsible in all I do,
I ‘ll respect myself and others too.
I’m here to learn all I need
To try my very best to succeed.
If success is to be, it’s up to me,
Our class is a family, yes indeed!

AR Guidelines and Expectations
Read 0.5 AR books three times before you take a test.
Read chapter books (1 point or higher) one time. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to meet your AR goal.
Check out books only in the level that your teacher has assigned ( in your AR folder)
Before testing, complete your AR log.
For chapter books, complete a summary sheet
For 0.5 books, complete an SOS sheet
Conference with teacher after testing on all 3 books to determine book level before going to the media center.
You should have 3 AR books checked out at all times, reading one book at a time. If you’re reading several books at the same time, it could cause confusion during testing.
If you are reading chapter books, you should check out one chapter book and two 0.5 books.

Raising Book Levels
Book levels are determined by the average % correct of tests taken; not by the number of tests taken. The goal is to score 85% or higher on all AR tests. For example: if a student’s average % correct is 85% or higher and their average book level is 2.6, their book level will rise to a range from 2.6 - 2.8 for 0.5 books. The level for chapter books will be slightly lower due to the difficulty in comprehension questions on the tests. The same holds true for nonfiction books.
My goal is to help each student succeed at their independent reading level without stress, while helping expand their love of reading.
