Projects
ART I- Drawing Unit
Students will observe how a light source casts highlights & shadows on an object & how highlights and shadows change when the light source moves. We will also learn how to create depth in art work by using several techniques: Easy 3-D shapes, shading (highlights & shadows), size relationships, overlapping, placement on the paper, value & details. Students will practice using several different drawing techniques- shading, hatching, cross hatching, stipple, gesture/scribble. Students have completed several projects using drawing techniques. The final drawing unit project will be an Oil Pastel Autumn Still Life. They will use several of the drawing techniques they have learned with a new material.
ART II-Identity Books/Boxes Mixed Media
Students will assemble a book which represents various aspects of their personality, background and interests. The main focus of this project will be symbolizing “The Self” using a variety of layered materials to create a unified and interesting book design. Each page must have the artist’s hand on it- some drawing or painting. The shape, size and binding of the book will be left up to the individual artist.
ART III-Personal Stuff on Shelves PastelsDrawing
Many of you have had the experience looking at someone’s personal stuff. You are able to tell a lot about that person or gain insight into their personality by the objects they hold dear and how they arrange those objects. You may have found the stuff in their home, car or desk. You might have seen these possessions on a bookshelf, in a closet, cabinet or drawer.
You are to collect 7 or more objects which symbolize people, places, events, and or things about you and your life. Arrange these objects on a shelf, cubby holes or any enclosure or your choice. Drawing enclosures in correct perspective is also a major goal. Your objects & enclosure should be done in an expressive manner as to give the viewer insight into your personality.
Art IV-Headless Self Portrait Pastels/Drawing
Think about the question, “Who am I?” We all search for the answer to this question no matter what our backgrounds, age or gender. What defines you as a person at this point in your life? If body parts could stand as a metaphor for “Who you are,” which parts would they be?
***Create a self portrait which does not show your head, but uses a body part to tell something significant about “Who You Are.”
