Computer Graphics I COURSE: Computer Graphics I SEMESTERS: 1 CREDITS: 0.5

Course Overview: The introductory communications course will teach photographic editing and drawing skills. The first half of the course will be devoted to learning techniques of photo editing using Corel PhotoPaint. The second half will be devoted to learning to create original graphics in Adobe Illustrator. This course will also explore areas related to the field of graphic design. Activities in each area will provide students with hands-on experience. Computer activities will be a major emphasis. It is expected that work that is assigned in class will be completed during class. If extra time or assistance is required, that may be scheduled after school or during a study hall.
Classroom Expectations: 1. Portfolio: You are responsible for creating a folder in your h: drive to keep all of your projects and other class materials. Only work that is in that folder will be graded. 2. Attendance: If you miss a class, you are responsible for making up the assigned work. Reminder: 11 absences may result in loss of credit 3. Tardiness: Class begins as soon as the bell rings. Please make every effort to be on time. Remember: after the 2nd tardy, each tardy = 1 Absence. 4. Extra Help: Students who need extra help or additional time to work on projects can make an appointment after school or during a study hall. 5. Quality of Work: All students are expected to work to the best of their ability as well as demonstrate a certain level of maturity. No work will be accepted or graded that contains inappropriate themes or items. Projects must be acceptable based on school standards. The teacher holds the right to deny any work deemed inappropriate. It is expected that all graphics will original – students will abide by Fair Use and copyright rules.
Grading Policies: Each project is assigned a point value based on the degree of difficulty and the scope of the work. Projects, tutorials and written reflections will also be assigned as learning activities and will be graded. Quizzes and tests will be averaged in with all project grades.
