Hi Parents, Spring has sprung! I am surprised every morning with how much your children have grown both mentally and physically. I swear they all shot up a couple of inches over Spring break! The Stanford 10 scores are back and I couldn’t be more excited about how well the kids did. Our reading scores were off the charts and our over all scores were well above grade level. Just another thank you for all of your support in getting the kids prepared with such success. Your child’s scores will be coming home in today’s Tuesday folder. In class we are finishing up our planner on Illustrators. The children have written and illustrated their own stories about trading places with a sea animal. They have worked very hard on these and they are hilarious! We will be starting our next planner on advertising this week. The kids will be learning about the power of logos, slogans, commercials, and other media as they prepare an advertising campaign for the Roberts Carnival on May 8th. I know that things at home get even busier this time of year with sports and other outside of school activities, but I still need your help in making sure your children are completing and returning their homework and Tuesday folders on time. Reading every night is still very important, and so is talking to your child about what they are reading. Ask them questions about the characters in their books. “What do you like/dislike about them?” “What IB attitudes or profiles do they exhibit?” “Would you have acted the same way in that situation?” “Does the character remind you of anyone else?” “Why?” Ask them about the problem in their stories. “Why do you think that happened?” “How else could the characters have solved the problem?” “What might have been some other solutions?” As we prepare the kids for next year, being able to answer these types of questions will be critical for their continued success. Again, thank you so much for all of the support that you give me with your children. They are so lucky to have parents as dedicated as you.
