Ms. Johnston's Fall Schedule 2009-2010 1st Period- Success 101 2nd Period- planning (9:30am-11am) 3rd Period- English I co-taught with Mrs. Wetmore 4th Period- Honors English I Success 101 is a class designed to prepare students to be successful in English I. In Success, students work on their reading and written expression skills to better prepare them for the End of Course test in English. Because the class is somewhat small, students are given more personalized attention and more hand-ons activities can be incorporated into the curriculum. Honors English I is a fast-paced, weighted class which offers students one extra point because of the level of difficulty and the time outside of class that it requires. I expect honors students to earn their weighted point in the class; therefore, they have more rigorous assignments and higher expectations than a CP English I class. Freshman English I is a grammar intensive class with an overview of nearly all types of literature. This semester, we will read a compilation ofshort stories, two novels (1 classic, 1 modern), the epic The Odyssey, Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet, a variety of poems, and several nonfiction pieces. English I includes an End of Course state evaluation and the class focuses on preparing students to do well at the semester's end. Members of the 2010 graduating class and younger must make a 3 or a 4 on the EOC in order to receive credit for the class.
I enjoy staying in contact with parents and would love to hear from you. Remember, I have 65 students this semester; it is difficult for me to initiate communication with all of their parents. If you have any questions or concerns, please send a detailed email and I will respond, usually within aday. johnstsn@rss.k12.nc.us |
- RELAY FOR LIFE I serve as the Teacher Team Captain of the West Rowan Relay team. It is such a worthy cause and I would love to see all West Rowan students contribute in some way this year.
