Dear 2-S Families,

Welcome spring! It is hard to believe it is May and warmer weather is here! Trees are blossoming and birds are singing and 2-S is blooming, too!

In reading, the children are working hard during guided reading. The children have had Literature Circles and taken more of a chance to ask questions of each other about the stories they have read. We are writing in our response journals or written responses associated with our stories. Our Venn Diagrams and our I Wonder Why questions are well written. Now, the children are writing summaries, text-to-text and text-to-world connections. The children loved listening to collections of stories by Beatrix Potter , Patricia Polacco and Tomi DePaola.

In math, we are reviewing fractions, measuring the area and perimeter, addition and subtraction, and the metric system. Because these were such
involved concepts,we will be reviewing for several weeks of  our core extension period. The period will be open-ended so your child can create his/her own problem, too. Also, they will have more time to play EDM on-line games and First-in-Math.

Writing has taken off! The children wrote many informational writing pieces in various forms. Some of our projects were written on Power Point,
Comic Life, and on Microsoft Word on the computer. We also wrote booklets about Women in History, and our American Symbols and used the data base, destiny and resource books for our projects. Currently, we are using the computer and the website, enchantedlearning.com and resource books for our projects about animals.

Have a wonderful spring and go outside and play!
