Welcome To Mrs. Huffman's Kindergarten

  1. This year is just flying by! It's hard to believe that the holiday season is over and we have started the second half of the school year. Our class has shown wonderful progress. In language arts, we are learning how to recognize capital and lowercase letters, learning to use those letters to spell words and write sentences.
  2. In writing, we are learning all about "small moments" and how to talk to a partner about what we want to write about. We are also learning to understand a "Four-Star " paper. The children will learn to capitalize the first letter in a sentence, leave spaces between words, sound out the word slowly, and put a punctuation mark at the end. They will receive stars for each item.
  3. Social Studies is always exciting. During these next two months we will be learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Black History, Groundhog's day, Valentine's Day.
  4. Many new math skills have been learned. We have been learning patterns, counting from 1-10 and beyond for many students. We are learning to graph and show  understanding of the concept of number recognition. We are beginning to develop an understanding of measurement as well.
  5. Science continues to be exciting in our class. We completed work on our Science Fair project and submitted it to our school Fair. We have begun a unit on Arctic Animals and have many exciting experiments planned.
