Welcome parents and students,

This page covers weekly Silver Trail Middle School Announcements.

2nd Quarter

November 2 - November 6, 2009

FROM PRINCIPAL FRAZIER:

Hello Mustang Parents ~  Here's the latest news of 'happenings' here at STMS:

Phwew!  Well, we just finished the job of providing H1N1 vaccinations to our students!  It was a success! The Broward County Health Department, who was here to administer the vaccinations, was so impressed with our school's organization, cleanliness, and most of all, our very polite students.  I want to sincerely thank all those who helped make this process run smoothly.  THANKS to all the Language Arts Department teachers! THANKS to the Guidance Team, Ms. Raden, Ms. Linero, & Ms. Wallace!  THANKS to Ms. Tchir, Ms. Carire, Ms. Ginger & Ms. Patty!!  Finally, THANKS to our Volunteers!   GREAT JOB to all of you!!

Come & meet our new School Board Member, Mr. Kevin Tynan, Esq., recently appointed by Governor Crist!  Silver Trail Middle is hosting this month's West Broward Innovation Zone meeting.  Parents, you are invited & encouraged to attend the meeting being held on Monday, November 9, in the school media center.  This meeting is a collaboration of all schools in our community including West Broward High School, Chapel Trail ES, Panther Run ES, & Hawkes Bluff ES.  I was invited to be the "guest speaker" for this month's meeting, and I will be doing a presentation on the No Child Left Behind AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) school report card and the DA (Differentiated Accountability) model that schools are required to follow as a consequence for not meeting AYP.  I will be explaining -- in layman's  terms -- what all this means & how it affects your school.  So, please make a point to join us here on Monday morning.  Light breakfast will be served.

That's all for now.  I will see you around the campus.  In the meantime, have a terrific weekend!

Attention Girls' Soccer:  There will be a brief Soccer meeting tomorrow, Friday, in the gym until 4:00.  Please have your ride on time.  During the meeting, all uniforms and locks will be collected.  T-shirts will be given out if you ordered one, and the semifinal t-shirts that you received at the game can be exchanged for a smaller size.  Make sure to bring that t-shirt with you to the meeting if you need a smaller size.  Pins will also be awarded tomorrow for the semifinal game.  Hope to see you all there.  By:  Coach Karp

This is a very important reminder for Student Council:  For those of you who have not had an opportunity to vote on our t-shirt design and colors, please stop by room #118 by this Friday.  Also, elections for President and Vice-President are next week!  Signed petitions are due to Ms. Morales in room #118 by Friday, and you must report to the Media Center during your scheduled times to give your speech.  The schedule is as follows:

6th grade reports to the Media Center on Tuesday, 11/10

7th grade - Thursday, 11/12

8th grade - Friday, 11/13

Be sure to arrive before 8:40 A.M.  If you have any questions or concerns, please see Ms. Morales.  By:  Ms. Capullo and Ms. Morales

October 26 - October 30, 2009

From Principal Frazier:  STMS's Student Government -- in partnership with our PTSA -- is sponsoring a "Save the Arts" campaign in an effort to fund several clubs for our students.  Among these clubs are the Jazz Band, and the Drama, Dance, and Art Clubs.  For a $5 donation, students will be permitted to come to school on Wednesday, November 4th, out of uniform.  It is so wonderful to see our students recognize the importance of the arts in education and stand together to not only bring more awareness of the arts but to actually help fund school clubs and events that promote the arts.  Parents, I hope you will encourage your children to bring in their $5 donation by Tuesday, November  and be a positive part of bringing these clubs back to Silver Trail Middle.  Thank you for your support.

The STMS "Save the Arts" campaign is going on.  Our goal is to collect $5,000.  These proceeds will help fund Jazz Band, Drama, and Step &Dance.  For your convenience, Student Council representatives and PTSA volunteers will be located outside of the cafeteria at 8:15 A.M. every morning until November 3 collecting your $5.00.  As a "thank you" for your five dollar donation, you will receive a no-uniform pass for Wednesday, November 4th.  Please help support this great cause!  By:  Ms. Morales and Ms. Capullo

The Girls' Soccer Team is going to the SEMI FINALS at Lockhart Stadium!!!  CONGRATULATIONS to the team as they defeated Pioneer Middle in yesterday's game with a score of 4-1.  Come watch the girls as they play for the 3rd year in a row in the Semi Final game at Lockhart Stadium.  They are now one of the top 4 teams in the county, defending their title as the Champions.  More information will follow.    By:  Coach Karp

Come see your Girls' Soccer team as they play in the second round of playoffs today (Thursday) against Pioneer at Pioneer Middle School.  The game starts at 4:00 P.M.  By:  Coach Karp

Let's give it up for the Girls' Soccer Team as they crushed Seminole yesterday in the first round of playoffs.  As the first half ended, the score was already 3-0.  Our ladies came back even stronger in the second half and put an additional 5 goals in, ending with a final score of 8 to zero!  This win allows us to advance to the second round of playoffs, which will be played on Thursday.  More details to come.  Also, this is a reminder to the girls that you must have grade sheets by Thursday.  By:  Coach Karp
