Monday, June 1 - Finish reading Tuck Everlasting, complete review sheet for Chapters 10 - Epilogue.  Homework:  Permission slip to watch the movie Tuck Everlasting need to be signed and returned by Friday, test on the book on Thursday.

Friday, May 29th - Students are continuing to read Tuck Everlasting - through Chapter 20, finish defining vocabulary through Chapter 15.  Using the vocabulary words, students are creating a crossword puzzle on graph paper.  Homework:  return and/or pay for library books.

Tuesday, May 26 - Blue Diamond Assessment.  Homework: return any library books - all books are now overdue.  EOG scores went home today.  Anyone receiving a 1 or 2 was remediated today.  Level 2's will retest on Thursday.  If your child received a Level 1 and you would like them to retest - please sign the bottom of the sheet and return it tomorrow!  They will also retest on Thursday. We will have a remediation class again tomorrow.

Thursday, May 21 - review vocabulary, read Chapters 8-11.  Answer Study guide Questions Cahpt. 1-9 - Questions 1-6, define Vocabulary words Chapter 4-5 (1-9). Homework:  Finish vocabulary words - bring in all library books.

Tuesday, May 19 - Review Prologue, read Chapters 1-5 in Tuck Everlasting, answer questions 1-3 (from Chapters 1-9), Vocabulary for Chapters 1-3 - define words 1-5. Homework:  complete definitions 1-5.

Monday, May 11 - EOG review.  No homework this week.  End of Grade Tests begin Wednesday.  Our schedule is as follows:  Tuesday - Student Survey, Wednesday - Math - Calculator Active, Thursday - Math - Calculator Inactive, Friday - Reading. Testing will start as soon as possible after 7:30 - Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, a good breakfast, and arrives to school on time.  Students will want to bring a sweater and/or sweatshirt to school as it is chilly in the classrooms!! Interim Reports will be sent home on Tuesday, May 12.  Please sign and return as soon as possible.

Tuesday through next Tuesday, May 5 - 12 - EOG Review everyday.  There will be no homework this week or next.  Interim Reports will be sent home next Tuesday!  End of Grade Tests are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of next week.  If at all possible, please make sure your child attends and arrives on time these 3 days!

Homework:  Work on unfinished poems, "Clock Ticking" sheet - Do not do the first 8 questions (they relate to a poem in the textbook).  Only do the last 8 that relate to the article attached.  Students who completed their poems worked on the homework in class.  All poems and Poetry Booklet due on April 15.

Tuesday, March 24 - Objective:  Analogies in Poetry, work on Sense Poem and Free Verse.  Tomorrow is the last day to work on poems in class.  Poetry Booklet and Poems are due to me on April 15.  Anyone wanting extra credit may complete one of the activities at the bottom of the project sheet.  To count for 3rd quarter it must be turned in to me no later than April 1st.  Otherwise it will count towards 4th quarter grades.  Homework:  Last day to turn in signed Poetry Test for full credit will be Friday, March 27; after 3/27 it will be considered late.  After 4/1, it will be a zero for that homework grade.  Continue to work on unfinished poems.

Friday, March 20 - Pop quiz on poetry terms....students may use their notes! Check first 9 poems for completion - this is a classwork grade.  Continue to work on poems - introduce Someday and Synonym poems.  Homework:  Continue to work on poems - students have been assigned 15 poems.

Thursday, March 19 - Media today.  Then work on poems - added Self Portrait and Preposition Poems. Homework:  Students must have these 9 poems completed by tomorrow:  /concrete, acrostic, haiku, cinquain, simile, parts of speech, list, personification, and 5 different couplets.

Wednesday, March 18 - Practice Writing Test this morning in 1st Block classes.  Then proceed with the rest of the day on a 2 hour delay schedule.  During Language Arts Class students will continue to work on poetry.  Onomatopoeia and Alliteration Poems are introduced.  Students must have 9 poems written by Friday. I will check these and give a class grade.  All examples of poems are at the bottom of my page as attachments.  Homework:  Media tomorrow - bring back all books which are due, continue to work on poems.

Tuesday, March 17 - Discuss completed graphic organizers and letter format for practice writing test tomorrow.  Introduce Couplets.  Students must write 5.  Homework:  Get Poetry Test signed, make sure and bring graphic organizer and a book to 1st block tomorrow. Continue working on poems.

Monday, March 16 - We are participating in a practice Writing Test on Wednesday.  This will start right after morning announcements.  It is important that all students are on time Wednesday morning.  We will be working on the planning of the prompt today and tomorrow. Homework:  complete graphic organizer for problem/solution letter, finish any poems not completed.   Students should have written 8 different poems.

Friday, March 13 - Retest on Poetry Terms.  Work on poems:  Simile, Parts of Speech, and List.  All directions for poems are below at bottom of the page.  Homework:  Finish all poems not completed in class.

Thursday, March 12 - Loosing at poet's purpose - read "Summer In The Morning".  Poems done in class:  Cinquain and Personification.  Homework:  retest on Poetry Terms, finish poems.

Wednesday, March 11 - work on Haiku and Acrostic Poems.  New vocabulary sheet was given out - test on Friday - test will consist of example of the figurative language.  Students will have to identify the examples.  Homework:  complete haiku and acrostic poems - Block 2 was an the Cultural Arts assembly - they have no homework. Monday, March 9 - Continue to look at literary elements of poetry - today we worked with sound devices - rhyme, alliteration, and repetition.  Poetry Project was assigned and explained.  It is due on April 15.  All poems will be written in class and each block was given a number of poems to use in their booklet.  We will begin working on the poems tomorrow in class. I will post the type of poems we write each day.  If a student is absent, I will give them a sheet with instructions for the poems written that day.  A copy of the sheet is attached at the bottom of this page.  There are 3 extra credit activities - students may choose one of those and turn in with their poetry booklet. Homework:  Study for Poetry Vocabulary Terms test tomorrow.  Definitions only with examples to identify.

Friday, March 6 - Students worked on draft of problem/solution essay.  Homework:  Complete draft if not completed in class; study for poetry vocabulary test on Tuesday.

Thursday, Jan. 15 - reteaching of descriptive and proper adjectives.  Quiz from yesterday was returned and gone over.  Because of poor grades (on most) I went over the material again and gave a retest on descriptive and proper adjectives today.  Students who received a C or below must make corrections on another sheet of paper - rewrite each sentence missed and follow directions from the quiz.  Half credit will be given and the final grade will be counted as classwork.  No one will receive lower than a 70 if the corrections are done. I will reteach possessive and demonstrative adjectives tomorrow and retest that as well.  The 2 retests together will result in a new test grade.  I commend those students who received an A or B on the orginal quiz! Homework:  Corrections on adjective quiz given yesterday are due on Tuesday, Jan. 20.  Homophones Quiz on Wed., Jan. 21.

Tuesday, Dec. 2 - Reviewed first five vocabulary words in the context of the book and first 2 chapters.  We continued reading through Chapter 5 and answered questions 9-20. Homework: define vocabulary words 6 through 9.

Monday, Dec. 1 - Reviewed author's purpose and stance.  Introduced Freak the Mighty which is the novel we will be reading for the next few weeks. Students were given study guide questions which they will have time to work on in class.  If a student gets behind or is absent, they may check out the book from me to catch up. Students were also given a vocabulary list for the first 4 chapters.  Homework: to define the first 5 words on their vocabulary list.  We have reached 6 hornet in our Hornet's Reading Fest!  The first incentive will be handed out tomorrow.  Students must have their reading logs in class in order to be able receive the incentive!

Monday, Nov. 24 - Discussed author's purpose - to entertain, inform, or persuade; following directions activity.  Homework:  Suffix quizzes need to signed.  Those who scored a 70 or below may make corrections for half credit - due tomorrow.

Friday, Nov. 21 - Suffix quiz today, finish up nonfiction,fact, and opinion centers.  Homework:  none, except Block 1 - corrections on verb test due Monday.

Thursday, Nov. 20 - Fact and opinion focus lesson, work on nonfiction, fact/opinion centers. Homework:  Suffix Quiz on all suffixes, corrections on verb tests due tomorrow except for Block 1.

Wednesday, Nov. 19 - Suffix quiz on first 5; review verbs; fact and opinion. Homework:  Quiz Friday on ALL suffixes.  Verb tests were returned.  Students may make corrections for half credit. The lowest grade a student will receive on corrections is a 70.   Students must rewrite the sentences they missed on a separate sheet of paper - telliing me which section it is from and the number of the sentence(s).  They must follow the directions for that section written on the test. The original test and the corrections sheet are to be stapled together and turned in no later than Friday.  I will not accept corrections after Friday (except for Block 1 - they have until Monday). I will also only accept the corrections if all corrections are made on all incorrect answers, not just a few.

Tuesday, Nov. 18 - Continuing to work with summarization in nonfiction; worked on fact/opinion and nonfiction centers. Homework:  Quiz tomorrow on first 5 suffixes; Quiz Friday on ALL suffixes.

Monday, Nov. 17 - Objective - Nonfiction - facts and supporting details - summarizing. Homework:  Quiz Wed. on first 5 suffixes; Quiz Friday on ALL suffixes.  Please donate nonperishable items for the Food Drive this week.

Friday, Nov. 14: I apologize for not updating sooner, but I was on jury duty the last two days!  Today we discussed nonfiction and all the everyday things we read which qualify.  We also updated writing folders.  Homework:  none for the weekend!

Monday, Nov. 10 - Review verbs for test.  Homework:  Study for Verb test on Wednesday; please sign and return white copy of report card, if you have not already done so.  Tuesday is Veteran's Day - school holiday.

Friday, Nov. 7 - Review all verbs.  Homework:  Report Cards are being distributed today.  Please sign one copy and return it as soon as possible to your child's second block teacher. Verb test on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Thursday, Nov. 6th - Helping Verbs, review action and linking verbs. Homework: Verb Test next Wednesday, Nov. 12; helping verb sheet due tomorrow.

Wednesday, Nov. 5th - Review grammar and reading assessments taken on Friday. Homework:  Action and Linking Verbs sheet - front and back.
