RELIGION -November 6,2009  Mrs. Carroll, Mrs. Hunker, Mrs. Phillips

Remember our penny challenge starts Monday and runs until Wednesday.  This is our chance to earn money to buy toys for those less fortunate then we are.  We will have completed Chapter 6 today.  We will do the review on Monday.  We will be in the tech room on Tuesday and the test is set for Wednesday.  Don't forget to e-mail the results from the on-line review to us by 8:00AM Wednesday morning.  Our next chapter looks at Jesus as God and Man.  Have a good weekend

Pre-algebra  November 2 - 6    Mrs. Gross

I will return last week's test to the 7th grade on Monday.  They will as usual have a chance to increase their grade by getting it signed and making corrections, showing all the appropriate work.  The corrected test must be turned in by 7:50 Tuesday morning.

We will then begin chapter 4 which deals with fractions.  Friday's quiz will be over sections 4.1 - 4.3.

The access code for the online book is FE276232C9.

LITERATURE -

Today the students discussed the play, "The Hobbit," and received information on their follow-up project - to create a billboard advertisement for the play using their favorite character or scene as the basis for the design.  This will be due on Friday.

We will read the story "mk" by Jean Fritz this week and have a selection test over it on Friday with a vocab test scheduled for next Monday.

We will begin Gathering Blue next week so it is essential that all novels be turned in by Friday to assure each student will have his/her own copy.  These have been requested since the beginning of school and there are still a large number of students who have not brought them in.

The next book report information has been handed out.  Students are to read a science fiction or fantasy book and have 3 choices of projects.  The project will be due on Dec. 10.

ENGLISH                                               week of November 2, 2009
and week of November 9, 2009

Don't forget to call Mrs. McCarthy to schedule conferences this Thursday from nine in the morning until two in the afternoon.  The conferences themselves will be held on NEXT Thursday from seven in the morning until seven in the evening.  You may schedule with any or all of your child's teachers.

MONDAY - Pronouns in comparisons

TUESDAY - Compound personal pronouns

WEDNESDAY - Pronominals

THURSDAY - Relative pronouns

FRIDAY - Begin review

MONDAY - Review for test

TUESDAY - Pronouns test

WEDNESDAY - Return tests and go over

THURSDAY - Conferences (no classes)

FRIDAY - No school

The second part of the book is where we spend about two-thirds of the school year, working on grammar. Most of what we cover is review from previous years, with new, slightly more complicated material added as we go through each chapter.

Please encourage your children to study a little every night, especially the evenings after they have taken notes in class. It will give them an opportunity to ask questions if they realize they really do not understand a section, before we go on to the next lesson. Some of the chapters are long, and the students really cannot memorize all of the material in the one or two nights before the tests. Occasionally, I will give pop quizzes to be sure students are studying the material a little at a time, rather than waiting until just before tests.

SCIENCE November 6,2009  Mrs. Carroll

We have officially begun our study of the kingdoms.  We have been discussing bacteria.  I have on order some petrie dishes with agar and this will allow us to swab somewhere in the building to determine  bacteria growing.  There will not be an article until after conferences.  If you still would like to talk call my extension and give me a time and I will see if it is available.  Have a good weekend.
