Welcome to the New Year....2010!!

Here are a few things going on at school:

    Report cards go home this Monday, January 11.  Please be looking for those.  Remember to sign those parent signature forms attached to the report cards and return them the next day.

     Many students have run out of notebook paper for my class.  Make sure that they have notebook paper. 

     January 22 is the next spirit day.  Wear your spirit shirts and khakis.

Monday:  January 11th, 2010

1.     Students completed two Daily Geography questions.  These will be picked up at the end of the week for a grade.

2.     Students added 7 map additions to their map of Europe.  They are:  North Sea, Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Aegean Sea, Greece, Mediterranean Sea, and Crete.  There will be a test on these on Friday!

3.     Students took notes and discussed the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete.  Topics were: 

        *Where was Minoan civilization found?

        *Who was the king of Minoan civilization?

        *Palace built by King Minos?

        *Bull Jumping?

        *System of writing?

        *Polytheist?

        *Male/Female equality?

        *Mystery of the disappearance of the Minoans?

4.     Homework:  8 questions on a worksheet about Minoans.  Due on Tuesday!

Tuesday - January 12, 2010

1.     Students completed two Daily Geography questions.

2.     Students will check homework in class on the Minoans.

3.     Story of King Minos and the Minotaur!

1st, 2nd, and 3rd hour student started on this. 

5th, 6th, and 7th  are about a day behind due to the counselor's visit on last Thursday.  So we will do the lesson on the Acropolis, Parthenon, and work on our lap top to complete an activity on the Agora (Greek marketplace).  They will start the myth tomorrow.

1.     Students completed two Daily Geography questions.

2.     Complete story of King Minos and the Minotaur.

3.     Students will be able to use the lap tops.  They may go to the site:  http://greece.mrdonn.org/minoans.html - The Difficult Maze.

        In the story a labyrinth (maze) is built to house the minotaur.  Students will have fun finding their way out of the maze.
