Colors: green & gold
Shape: shamrock

Nursery Rhyme: Turtle on the Rocks
Word of the month: magical

Special Days:
Wed. March 14 & Thurs. March 15 - Leprechaun/St. Patrick’s Days/Green Days
Happy March!! What an exciting, magical, and mystical month March will be.  We will learn about leprechauns, St. Patrick’s Day, boats, planes and automobiles.  This is a great month for children to let their imaginations run wild.
Wednesday, March 14 and Thursday, March 15 are our St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.  How many leprechauns are going to visit Red Apple this year?  Will anybody be able to catch one with their leprechaun trap?  How messy will the leprechauns leave our rooms?  I do not know.  We will have to wait and see! It’s going to be a magical day! *** We are looking for donations of gold wrapped candy...SHHHHH...This is a secret.
Does your child like green eggs and ham? Do you?  We will finish our winter reading program, Snuggle With a Book, by celebrating Dr. Seuss the week of Feb.29 - March 2.   His birthday is March 2.   On Thurs. March 1 and Fri. March 2, we will try green eggs and hams and decide if we like it.

Poison Prevention Week is the third full week in March(March 19 - 23).  Children will learn about poison and poison prevention and will watch a DVD about poison safety.  It is a great opportunity to reinforce this at home also.  As always, the number for poison control/ emergencies is 1-800-222-1222.  There are numerous website online about poison control for kids.

FYI:   We encourage parents to be involved with your child at school at any level.  If you ever have any questions or concerns about your child, curriculum or school relations, please speak to your child’s teacher.  They are available in the morning for a question or two.  If you need a longer time period you can set up a conference.  Be assured that it is very important to be involved in your child’s education and maintain good communication with their teacher.

Nursery Rhyme: Three Little Kittens

Special Days
Thurs. Feb..2 - Groundhog Day
Wed. Feb. & Thurs. Feb.9 - red/pink days
Mon. Feb.13 & Tues. Feb.14 - Valentine’s Celebrations
Mon. Feb. 20 - President’s Day/No school
Wed. Feb.29 - Leap Day

Wow!  February is here already.  There are so many different things to learn about this month to include ground hogs, presidents, dental health, Mardi Gras and last but not least, Valentine’s Day and love.
Our screening process is winding down and will be completed soon.  Screening will be sent home the first week in February.  If you have any questions, concerns or just want to discuss the screening process or results, we highly encourage you to set up a conference with your child’s teacher or Mrs. Edwards.
We will be participating with the Central Rappahannock Library in the Winter Reading Program for Preschoolers.  It is called, Snuggle With a Book.  Materials for this should have been sent home.  We will record the books that we read at school and children can record the books that they read or were read to at home.  Children love to hear the same book again and again.  This repetition is good for the brain.  You may be surprised at the number of books that are read in one month(even if many are the same books).  This program starts on Feb.1 and ends on March 2, 2012(Dr. Seuss’s birthday).
Valentine’s Celebrations
Our Valentine’s celebrations will be on Feb.13 and Feb.14.  Please send in Valentine’s cards for the children in your child’s class.  You may also send in a treat if you would like to.  Ask your child’s teacher for more specific class details.
FYI: Hand washing is the most effective way to kill germs that cause colds and viruses.  During the day at Red Apple, children continue to wash their hands with warm water and soap numerous times.  Please encourage this at home also!!

**We are now enrolling for the 2012-2013 school year**

Welcome to 2012!!!  We hope everyone had a fantastic break and spent some time with family and friends.  Thank you all for the wonderful goodies and gifts.
During the month of January, each child will go through a screening assessment.  This is an assessment of your child’s developmental skills.  It is important to remember that screening is not testing of any kind.  Teachers will use the results of this screening to identify any weak areas and to develop objectives for the rest of the school year.  Due to the nature of the screening process, your child will not bring home as many projects or activities as usual.  You can expect the results of the screening and a more detailed explanation of the assessment to go home the first week of February.  If you have any questions feel free to contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Edwards.
WINTER PROGRAM: We will have winter programs on Wed. Jan.25 and Thurs. Jan.26.  The program will be held at Summit Presbyterian Church, 256  Shelton  Shop Road in Stafford.  It will begin at 9:30am.   Please have your child wear a white t-shirt with blue jeans to the program.   All children are asked to perform on the scheduled days that they attend school.  Countrywood will be closed until after the program on Wednesday.  If your child attends both Wednesdays and Thursdays they have the option of coming to school on Thursday.  The hours will be as usual.  We would love all of our students to perform on both days of possible.  Please note that your child’s teacher will not be at school on Thursday until the program is over.  We will have substitutes teachers at Countrywood on Thursday morning for those who are not performing.  If you have any questions feel free to contact Mrs. Edwards.

Registration: We will start  enrolling for the 2012 - 2013 school year this month.    We will open the registration for current students and returning families first.  We will begin an open registration to the public shortly after.  The pre-k classes will fill up very quickly.  Be on the look out for a registration form to be sent home with your child.  There will also be available forms on the parent tables.  To guarantee a spot, return the registration form with the registration fee and place it in the registration folder on either parent table.
Inclement Weather: Just a reminder that we follow Stafford County public School weather policy.  If Stafford closes, we close.  If there is a two-hour delay then we also have a two-hour delay.  School hours will be 11/11:15 - 1/1:15.  We will open at 10am for morning Cheetahs.

It is Red Apple tradition to celebrate St. Nicholas Day.  Before going to opening on Mon. Dec 5 and Tues. Dec.6, our students will leave a shoe out for St. Nicholas.  Will he visit and leave  goodies in their shoes????  We are asking for a few parents to donate wrapped candy for this celebration.

On Tues. Dec.20 and Wed. Dec.21 we will have pajama day and game day.  Your students are welcome to come to school wearing pajamas and bring their favorite game to share with their friends.  Please have them wear real shoes as we will go outside.

Special Thanks    Thank you to all of the parents who participated in our Thanksgiving Feast in anyway.  The food was yummy and the help was wonderful.  This feast would not be possible without the help of our families.  THANKS!!!

Country Wood will have a winter program in JANUARY.  The dates for this are  Wednesday, January 25 and Thursday, January 26.  There will not be a program in December this year.

Reminder: Please send your child to school in a coat, mittens and a hat.  We will go outside everyday if the weather permits.  Please label all items as little mittens and hats tend to wander away from their owners.

Inclement Weather: We follow Stafford County Public School policy for inclement weather.  When the county closes for the day, we are also closed.  If there is a two hour delay, we are also on a two hour delay.  School hours are 11/11:15 - 1/1:15 and Morning Cheetahs will begin at 10am.

Wed. Nov.23  -  Fri. Nov.25 - Thanksgiving Break

November is here!  We hope that everyone had a great time at Belvedere Plantation.  We are so glad that the weather cooperated.  What a great place to experience fall and see how pumpkins grow.  We also hope that everyone enjoyed our little marchers in our Halloween parades.  They loved showing off their costumes as well as their marching skills.
November is a month for family, friends and giving thanks.  It is tradition at Red Apple to have a Thanksgiving Feast.  Every year this is a time when all of our Red Apple students and teachers eat a meal together and give thanks for each other and their families.  Please be on the lookout for sign-up sheets at the parent tables.  We thank you in advance for anything you cook or donate.  We could not have this feast without the help from our parents.  We will also need a few volunteers from each class to help with the feast.
November is a great time to teach children about the importance of giving.  Every year Countrywood collects food for the Salvation Army.  There will be a container in the kitchen to collect donations of non-perishable food.  This is for a wonderful cause and we are hoping that Red Apple can help provide a little bit of happiness for children and families that may need help this holiday season.

******* The weather is changing quickly this time of year.  We will go outside everyday, weather permitting.  Please label your child’s coat and other items.  Please send in hats and gloves if it is cold.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Red Apple families!!!!

RED APPLE PARENT NEWS...August 2011

WELCOME TO THE 2011 - 2012 SCHOOL YEAR

We are celebrating 30 years of excellence in Early Childhood Education this year!!!

School Notes

Your child's teacher will call you before September 2, 2011 to answer questions and check information.  Open houses will be held between 9:30 and 11:30 on September sixth and seventh.  Your teacher may tell you the best time to visit but you may stop by any time during those hours.

At the Open House you will meet your teachers, receive school information and fill out paperwork.

New students need to submit a physical with a record of updated immunizations. The Commonwealth of Virginia School Entrance Health Exam Form may be downloaded from the internet by keying in that name.

New students will also need to show identification such as a birth certificate or passport.

All students need to bring 2 emergency contacts with phone numbers and addresses.  (The Commonwealth will give us a violation if we do not have all of this information.)

The first regular day of school starts September 8, 2011.

We are looking forward to another great year!

Monthly news letters will be posted on the “school notes” link on our web site www.redappleschools.com  Paper copies will be available this year on each parent table.

Accounting
Our accountant works for us only a few days each month.  The best way to have accounting questions answered is to email us at redappleschools.com   If you need immediate assistance, call the school and we will try to contact the accountant for you.  Don’t worry if you do not have computer access.  Call the school.

Recyclables
We always welcome paper that has one clean side for random drawing.  Sometimes companies change their letter heads.  The back of the paper is fine for us.  We also use envelopes and end of paper rolls.  So, before you throw it out, think of us!!

Customs and Professions
Sharing your customs, professions and talents greatly enriches our program.  Please read our newsletter and if you have a profession, talent or custom that seems to fit, please contact your teacher or one of the coordinators.

Parent Visits
Parents are always welcome to visit our school at anytime.

Arrival and Departure
It will be slow the first two weeks until everyone knows the routine.  PLEASE be patient.  Never leave your car running and never leave children unattended in the car.  A greeting teacher will be outside Countrywood every day.  Feel free to drop your child off with her.  She will ensure that your child gets to class.  This promotes self-esteem in young children as they are doing it “by themselves.”

Late Arrivals
In the event of a late arrival, you must walk your child into the school and take them to their teacher.  NEVER LEAVE A CHILD AT THE ENTRANCE>

Parent classes/workshops
On each parent table is a book containing classes offered in our area for parents.  If you have special interests in this area, please contact the staff.

Reporting Suspected Child Abuse
We are required by state law to report any suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
