Summary of our first week: 8/24-8/28

I am so happy to have your children in my classroom.  They are trying very hard to adjust to the new procedures and expectations in the classroom, and it may be a little harder for some than others... but hang in there!

This week the students learned about basic procedures during reading groups and writing with a practice "centers packet" and "story packet". I am looking forward to them building more independence in their classwork.  The children have also been assessed for their reading levels and group placement.  Although the students are going to be placed in their groups based on abilities, they will all be covering the same stories and skill each week.  During the next few weeks, the work may be "too easy" for some students, but depending on group level, the acceleration of the reading will change.  Currently, I am putting forth great efforts to get them used to the lesson procedures so that they can be successful with their independent functioning skills.

Please also pay close attention to the homework folder and agenda each night.  I have stapled the daily spelling procedures into the blue homework folder for clarification.  In order for your child to receive full homework completion credit, YOU must initial the planner nightly.  In turn, they will receive a monkey token to use toward the treasure box on Fridays.

Spelling words will be assigned starting next week.

In math, we are reviewing and looking at building patterns.  This corresponds to chapter 22 in their math books.

The students first book report for the school year will be sent home in the Friday folder NEXT week.
