I am offering Language Arts tutoring on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:45AM until 8:15AM in my classroom. Students can attend who have questions about our class assignments, homework, preparing for a quiz or if they would like to read or use studyisland.com. I will offer this tutoring from now until the week of EOG's.

Please consider donating classroom supplies: tissues, construction paper, crayons or coloring pencils. Valley Vouchers and candy will be given to those who donate items. Thank you.

Students were given a new set of spelling words. This list was created from a nonfiction article we will read on Thursday of this week. Words are to be written five times each by next Wednesday. Also, there is a word search on the back of the list that is due next Wednesday as well. The quiz will be next Friday, March 20th.

We will havea a short contractions quiz on Friday of this week: 10-15 questions max. Due to MANY student requests, I have added two contractions websites to our links list to help students practice creating and understanding contractions. HAVE FUN!

Make sure students bring their novel mini project packet and the novel they will be using to class on Wednesday. Wednesday will be a working session for these projects. I will be available for quesitons, assistance and students can use the classroom supplies for coloring, drawing, defining words etc.

We are working on contractiobns in class today and Thursday. We will have a short quiz on contractions on Friday: 10-15 questions max.

If all students earn an 85% or higher on the homonyms test today, we will have a celebration day in language arts tomorrow (Friday). Students may bring sodas, iPods, and snacks and anything they would like to read (magazines etc) for the first half of class and then they can play board games and card games the second half of the class period. No PSP or hand held video games permitted as it is against school policy.

No homework over the weekend. SOME students have taken their writing home to finish the final drafts because they were unable to do so in class today. It is a must that they bring their final copies on Monday because we TYPE on Monday.

Students should be reading their novels and beginning to work on the mini projects assignment. We will have one day next week where students will be given class time to work on this. However, most of the work will need to be done on their own time. The project is due on March 17th.

The Novel Mini Projects assignment was handed out today. It is due on Tuesday, March 17th. We will work some on this assignment in class, but most of it will need to be done on the students' time at a pace that dependes upon where they are in their novels. If you have questions, please email me.

The next homonyms list was sent out today. Students are required to write List A with the definitions 5 x's each by Tuesday of next week, and List B with definitions 5 x's each by Thursday of next week. The quiz on BOTH lists will be on Friday, February 27th.

Students will begin writing the drafts of their current state writing tasks next week in math classes. We will revise and edit these drafts Thursday and Friday in language arts classes.

I will select various lessons and students can choose games, printable worksheets, practice quizzes and tests and also read through notes on different objectives in our curriculum to help them learn and practice a variety of skills. We will begin studying the novel/play "A Christmas Carol" this week. Expect regular vocabulary and spelling quizzes as we read.

Vocabulary will be introduced on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. We will be reading the play and exporing Charles Dickens from now until Winter Break.

Students will be maintaining a "Christmas Carol" folder with their assignments, notes, activity sheets and so on in the classroom. This folder must stay organized and contain all required assignments. This folder organized and with completed assignments will count as a test grade at the end of this unit.

Students will also be able to use the information in the folder to assist them on the "Christmas Carol" test which will be on December 18th or 19th.

Today is the last day for dragon presentations. Overall, the presentations and written pieces have been OUTSTANDING!!! I'm so proud of all of the hard work done by my students!! Many of the dragon projects are on display in the media center.

Students are to start the Dragon Project reflection questions and we will finish them in class on Monday. This is a classwork grade (completion grade, if they do it, it's a 100, if they don't it's a zero).

Next week we will return to weekly spelling tests. Be ready!

Also, if you are taking part in the second chance AR test, your test must be taken by next Wednesday, no exceptions.

The book fair is open! We will go, as a class, on Wednesday, November 12th.
However, students can go during before school, during homeroom, during lunch and after school as well. The book fair is also open before and after school.

Students are expected to bring their rubrics and stories home to be signed. Then, the rubric and story will be placed into their class folders. Dragon Presentations begin this week! Each student already has a presentation date and should have taken notes on how he/she will be graded for each component: written, presentation and dragon.

Students are to bring their library books every day this week. We will be reading silently after presentations are completed for the day.

Happy Halloween!

Dragon Presentations start NEXT week!!!! Each student selected a date and is expected to have his/her project and written assignment on that day. No exceptions barring an emergency.

We will continue revising today in class. Some students may be ready for a final copy, some may need to finish over the weekend.

Homework: Wrap up your Dragon Project. We will resume spelling and vocabulary quizzes the week of November 10th. There will NOT be any other homework during the week of presentations unless your student needs to take an additional AR test. See Below:
Students who earned less than an 80% on their AR tests can read a second AR book and take another AR test by November 12th and I will use the higher of the two grades. It is the student's responsibility to tell me when he/she has taken the second AR test.

Students should be in the process of revising their drafts. Some students may have begun to write final copies today. Some students DID not bring their drafts to class. THEY MUST BRING THEM ON FRIDAY.

Students selected dragon project presentation dates today. These dates were luck of the draw and the students randomly selected them out of a "hat". Presentations begin on Monday. Remember, the project is worth SIX grades. There are no acceptabl excuses for not having your project on your chosen date unless an absolute emergency has happened. The reason for this is when students forget projects and try to present the following day, it throws off the whole schedule and students who did bring their projects on time are then not able to present. Work on your Dragon Project. We will be revising the written piece and working on the final draft Thursday and you should be ready to publish by Friday.

We will draw peresentation dates on Thursday of this week.

"The Smallest Dragonboy" test will be on Wednesday. Study vocabulary and be sure you know the plot of the story. Review your study guide. We went over and graded the study guide in class on Monday.

OUR CLASSROOM IS OUT OF TISSUES, PAPERTOWELS, AND ALL PURPOSE CLEANER. PLEASE CONSIDER DONEATING SOME OF THE THESE SUPPLIES TO OUR CLASSROOM. WE DO NOT RECEIVE THESE SUPPLIES FROM THE SCHOOL, I HAVE TO PURCHASE THEM PERSONALLY AND WE HAVE ALREADY USED THE FOURTEEN BOXES OF TISSUES, TWENTY-SIX ROLLS OF PAPERTOWELS, AND SIX BOTTLES OF ALL PURPOSE CLEANER THAT I PURCHASED MYSELF. Dragon Projects have been assigned! Students have a four page handout that explains the project. They will select their presentation date and recieve rubrics this week. Email me with questions. Presentations will begin the week of October 27th. We will work on the written portion of the project this week in class.

Students will need to finish each day's in class writing assignment related to the dragon project.
