MARCH ATTENTION PRE-K PARENTS

We hope that all the love that was shown on Valentine’s Day will continue to be shown throughout the year. Here at school we discussed the importance of showing love by using appropriate behavior. Please help your child to better understand this concept by pointing out times when you feel love from them because of the way they are acting and not because they are saying, “I love you”.

Thank you to Mrs. DiOrio-Matonti and the boy’s families for providing the refreshments for our Valentine Day celebration.

“Book It” – Give Me 20 Reading Challenge begins on March 7. Please look over the material explaining this program and help your child participate at home by reading to them everyday. They can use one of the “printed rectangles” to write the name of each book they’ve read or just write down the number of minutes your child read or was read to, using one shape for each day. Children should be read to but can also read picture books on their own as there are many stories they are very familiar with, which they can enjoy on their own. Please have your child cut out each rectangle before bringing it into school to be read and placed on the “Book It” bulletin board in our classroom. It would also make our bulletin board look beautiful if the rectangles were decorated/colored by the children. Children please put your name on your “shapes”. Child’s name on the front and list of books on the back would work best. The children love to hear their name read out along with the list of books they read at home.

If your child is having water for snack and/or lunch please send in small bottles or “no spill” containers. The large water bottles spill easily and we have had many spills to mop up.

Our Lenten Service Project for 2012 will be to collect breakfast food items for Mary’s House.

This would include:

Hot and cold cereals

Granola bars

Pancake mix

Syrup

Muffin/quick bread mix

Bottles of 100% fruit juice

Peanut butter and jelly/jam

Graham crackers

Thank you for your continued support of our many charitable good deeds. The deadline for this project will be Wednesday, APRIL 4, 2011.

Dear Parents,

The month of March brings hopes of warmer days. We’re very excited about being able to go out for recess after a long and very cold winter. We won’t even mind the gusty winds that March brings for they are just what are needed for flying kites.

Our learning will be centered on the following topics:

  • “Book It” – Give Me 20 Reading Challenge
  • St. Patrick’s Day and St. Joseph’s Day
  • Clifford Time – Spring Brings Babies! and Do You Hear the Weather?
  • God’s Gift of Earth and Plants
  • God’s Gift of Life
  • Look What I Can Do – My 5 Senses
  • Getting ready for Easter
  • Counting from 1 to 10
  • Letters D, R, N, K, G
  • The color purple for Lent

The children will continue to improve their gluing, coloring, cutting and painting skills while working on many projects this month. They will also be working with play dough to form letters, animals and whatever else their imaginations bring forth. There will be songs and finger plays to go along with our learning and we hope they will share them with you.

This month our class will participate in the “Book It Beginners Program” for pre-k children. We will be reading to the children for at least 100 minutes per week at school and hope that you will make time to read to your child at home everyday.

The children will be encouraged to look for signs of spring this month. Help them to become aware of the changes that are occurring in your yard and around the neighborhood. Watch the trees change and look for robins, bugs, worms, bulbs sprouting and so on.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, St. Joseph’s Days and Happy Spring to all our families!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fusco

Mrs. Varone

Mrs. Stover
