There is a section that teaches them the words, test them on the words and lets them play games with their spelling words.  Just click on the link above and the FIND A LIST by typing in my last name.  You will see the list for each story and the High Frequency Words for K-5.  (Even if you have another child in another grade you can use my site to let them practice their HFW for their age level.)

Have you tried RAZ-KIDS.com?  I have sent home the website and user names already.  Remember your child should read 30 minutes 4 out of 7 nights a week.  I accept any type of reading logged into their agenda, ie. newspaper, magazine, book or internet. Please try to question them after they read to check for understanding.

Math

Our math book is available online to get that extra help you may need. Just log in and use the online tools. Pearsonsuccessnet.com
Please remember that I am available Wednesday mornings from 7:20 - 7:45 for FREE math tutoring. If your child would like to come in early on Wednesdays just let me know. They will come straight to the room and we will work on math strategies that they need extra help on.  If your child misbehaves during this time they will be asked not to return.

Science

We have already learned about animal adaptations and health food. The next unit will be on rocks and minerals.

Social Studies

We have started our Unit on NC Government. To learn about our government not only are we using our books but our class is learning how to be a good citizen. We have voted and our project is to work on the prevention of littering in our community. We will be researching solutions to the problem. Next we will plan and implement our project.  We are going to use this problem based learning to understand citizenship.

How can you direct your child into be a good citizen in our community?  Read this file to give you ideas, remember they are our future! It will take you to another site to read.

Grades

I am using an online system to keep track of the students grades in addition to a standard gradebook.  You received your password already, so I will encourage you to sign into the site anytime you wish to check up on your child's grades.  Here is the link for that site: ENGRADE

If you have any questions about your student's learning please do not hesitate to call me. If there is anything else that you would like to see added to this site please let me know. I want this to be a tool that you can use at least monthly.  It takes time to set it up and I want to make sure it is useful to the parents and students!
