Mrs. Smith's  Class Notes

Hello Families,

Spring has arrived. The little ones that started Kindergarten in August have disappeared and have become independent and oh so smart! We are looking forward to our vacation and then getting to really show how much we know when we take the SAT 10 the week of the 20th.

Our word list has grown to 92 words. We will add 30 more this quarter. Keep the new word list handy. You do not need to wait until it is the correct week. You can start learning them now.

We will continue taking AR quizzes and are trying to be 1st graders and taking them by ourself. Please do not let your child get frustrated reading the books independently. It is always more enjoyable to have an audience.  Have your child try the words but then give help instead of having them struggle. Each time they read the book, it will get easier and the words will become more familiar.

We are doing lots of writing. Your child should be able to write correctly all 3 letter words and most 4 letter ones. Try writing notes to each other or send a short note to someone else.

All of our phonograms will be "doubles" and are harder to remember. Be sure to check the planner weekly and point them out as you are reading.

We have learned to count by 2's, 5's, and 10's. We are continuing to practice addition and subtraction. Any help at home would be appreciated.

We are beginning our unit on Florida and sea life.

Please help your child learn his/her telephone number and address.

You have received your invitation for our luncheon on Friday, May 8th. We hope you can arrange your schedules. We are inviting you to return to our class where we will have a celebration honoring those who love us and take care of us.
