Carpentry I
For the month of November we will finish Unit 4: Hand and Power Tools the objectives are: 1. Demonstrate the use and maintenance of hand and power tools. a. Identify and discuss the use of common hand and power tools. b. Discuss rules of safety. c. Select and demonstrate the use of tools. d. Explain the procedures for maintenance. We will begin Unit 5: Introduction to Blueprints these objectives are 1. Read, analyze, and design a blueprint. a. Identify terms and symbols commonly used on blueprints. b. Interpret various symbols to locate various elements. c. Interpret a plan to determine layout. d. Interpret basic electrical specifications. e. Interpret electrical drawings, including site plans, floor plans, and detail drawings. Students may use the gaggle.net to e-mail outlines and homework assignments. All test will be given via an electronic format and the results will be e-mailed to the student's gaggle account. Carpentry II The students have started working in the shop and the objectives we will be testing this month are: Unit 4: Roof Framing 1. Describe principles of roof framing. a. Define roof framing members and terms. b. Identify the basic roof styles. c. Discuss methods used to calculate the length of a rafter. d. Identify types of roof trusses. e. Calculate the length of a rafter for a given size roof. f. Identify various types of sheathing used in roof construction. g Estimate materials needed to frame and sheathe a given size roof. h. Frame a gable roof. i. Sheathe and apply roofing felt on a gable roof. Students may use the gaggle.net to e-mail outlines and homework assignments.
