Language Arts- TWO BOOK REPORTS ARE REQUIRED FOURTH NINE WEEKS **great website** www.bookadventure.com We will study vocabulary, comprehension and other key skills through novel reading and centers this year. Our novel is "Maniac Magee" by Jerry Spinelli. It is about a boy named Maniac who experiences the effects of civil rights first hand in the town of Two Hills.
Our centers will be vocabulary puzzle on activboard, r-controlled site on computer, artist biography for writing, Science review with versatiles and SRA reading activites. We will have new vocabulary this week from our new novel. We are having spelling words also this week. They will be our vocabulary words and contract spelling activities (4) are due each Friday! Practice reading 120 words per minute! Please practice with daily vocabulary activities! Don't forget to check out The 12 powerful words flashcards below! ** CENTER WORK IS DUE ON FRIDAY **
Math- We studied number and operations, decimals, fractions, geometry, algebra, and problem-solving this school year. We finished our concepts/topics for the school year. We are spending the rest of the time on our math review using EOG Achiever, Study buddies, and help sessions for specific concepts. PLEASE PRACTICE BASIC FACTS SINCE THIS IS A HUGE PART OF STUDENTS UNDERSTANDING OF MATH!! We will use technology, calculators, math centers, and use hands-on manipulatives during math class. Please remember to continue practicing your basic multiplication and division facts during this school year!! Our math book is available on-line through www.pearsonsuccessnet.com
Social Studies- We are integrating SS into our reading curriculum this year.
Our lessons for the nine weeks will relate to our novel "Maniac Magee". We will cover Civil Rights and the Constitution. We will do textwork on the Civil Rights. We will do many activities and projects for our SS units this year. We will do center activities, technology projects, and student-created products. We will also study Canada, its history economics and government during the 4th 9 weeks.
Science- GREAT JOB ON SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS!! We studied landforms, biomes, weather & climate along with force & motion this school year. We will be using EOG Achiever to begin our review. This reteaches each concept from the school year and then asks questions for understanding.
Please ask your students frequently what they have
learned to review what they know about all Science concepts. Please help your students practice and review this vocabulary at home. This is essential to doing well on the Science EOG!! (make foldables or flashcards to practice)
Health- We will be studying personal health, decision making skills and substance abuse this school year. Our lessons will take
place during the 4th 9 weeks. We also had Family Life Skills for two days before Spring Break.
Please sign and return Monday folders with ALL papers! These are due back every Tuesday!
