Sept 11, 2009

The first few days of school have gone very well!  The children are adapting to first grade and enjoying their new routine.

Next week in Math we will be looking at sorting stuffed animals with a Venn Diagram.  Please send in one small stuffed animal (a beanie baby or small webkinz) on Monday.  In Language Arts next week, we will be focusing on recognizing words with the short a.

Here are notes from Mrs. Welte that applies to all of the children:

Parents,

Religion books (2) and Religion copybook went home this evening.  They should be covered in clear contact paper andreturned tomorrow.  If this is not possible, the weekend is fine toaccomplish this task.  In the meantime, send the books back in so we can use them tomorrow.  BRown paper is okay, but makes it harder for the children t o be sure they are taking home the right book.  Two more books will come home for the weekend - the Math book and the PracticeBook for Reading.  These two should also be covered if possible.  Onceagain, I understand busy families, just be sure to keep sending themback into school each day so that we have them to use in theclassroom.  Next week we will begin some serious learning and we needto have all our materials - 4 sharpened pencils, a box of 8 crayons, scissors and gluestick.  Pencils need to be sharpened at home, sincepencil sharpening in school becomes too much fun and a nice diversionfrom the work.  Please feel free to let us know of any concerns asap.

Well, our first day went very smooth.  No tears and lots of help fromthoughtful parents at lunch.  I just want to remind you that it isimportant that your child knows how they are coming back and forth toschool.  I believe everyone went home the right way today, but ask thatany new parent who has not done so already, please send in a note toconfirm how your child is going home.

Health records needto come back asap.  Also, please be sure that we are aware of anyparticular allergies (peanuts, bee stings, etc.)

We'll see you all in the morning.  Sleep well.
