Birds of a Feather, Achieve Together

WELCOME TO MRS. LEAMAN'S KINDERGARTEN WEBSITE!

Homework is assigned nightly. Please sit with your child and help him/her as the work. In all letter formation assignments, the children do need your hand over-top of theirs to help guide the letters. The correct formation sheet came home two weeks ago and should still be in your child’s BEAR book.

Students who are demonstrating that they are prepared to begin reading (they know most of the letters and sounds, can differentiate between letters and words, and can differentiate between the beginning of a word and the end of a word) will soon begin Reader Rabbit. This is a series books containing many sight-based words. The directions will be in a folder that will come home with the book when your child appears to be ready for this.

Goals for the first quarter are in your child’s BEAR book. Please be sure to look at them.  Goals that will be evaluated during the first quarter are:

  Recognizing pairs of rhyming words

Counting syllables in a given word

Identifying initial sounds in a word

  Reading the assigned sight words

Writing first name using upper and lower case letters correctly

Identifying the sounds in assigned phonograms

Identifying 52 upper and lower case letters in random order

Recalling and sequencing pictures (listening comprehension)

Counting, reading, correctly writing numerals 0-5

Recognizing and creating an AB pattern

Sorting items with a single attribute

Reading a graph to answer questions of which is more/greater and less/fewer

Demonstrating an understanding of ordinals first through fifth

PLEASE empty your child’s BEAR book on a nightly basis.

If you should have any questions or concerns, please feel free to write me a note, call the school and leave a message, or email me through this web site. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
