November 9 I have checked, sent and email, and re-checked this schoolnotes web site making sure that ads are not offensive. This is a web site for posting homework for school age children Last year, this web site had no advertising at all so, if you find an ad that is offensive, please let me know. This web site is easy to use and access for students, teachers and parents. The purpose is to provide daily communication about academic and fifth grade news. All other news can be viewed on the school web site as well as PTO and Principals newsletters. I will post information on the site Monday-Thursday. You will find assignments, tests, projects, tests and a list of graded papers that have been sent home. Be aware that this site is also used for high school students and sometimes (not often) the site will be "down" due to teenage "tinkering" with the program. If you do not have access to a computer to internet, all students have an agenda to record homework. Science Project: Presentation of the science experiment is due Tuesday, November 10. Students will also hand in their completed lab report. Math: We are still working on fractions. This week students will be working on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators and learning how to regroup fractions to subtract. Reading: We are reading In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. Writing includes summarizing chapters, learning vocabulary, and identifying similes. Geography: We are learning about the NE regions (Mid-Atlantic and New England) of the US and students are researching (in the computer lab) a city in the northeast and writing an informational pamphlet based on the research. This is an in class project but some students have already elected to take home the information to get started. Science: We are learning vocabulary and writing a booklet about Light. This is a very brief science unit. Work not completed in class will be sent home to complete.
