~What's Going On~

Language Arts~

Earthquake Terror or La Bamba

Students are reading Earthquake Terror or La Bamba in Language Arts class. While we read, students are responsible for studying vocabulary nightly and paying close attention during reading time. 


Centers~
Students are given a 'Center Packet' of work the first day of a new rotation of centers. Students are responsible for keeping their packet through the entire rotation. Students will go to one center each day. If they do not finish the center during center time, they are responsible for taking it home and completing it. Center Packets are due the day after their fifth center.

Spelling Contract ~
Each week students should choose four different assignments from their spelling contract. Contracts are due on Friday. 

Science ~
Ecosystems and Biomes Review
During the next few weeks we will be reviewing ecosystems and biomes, what they are made of, and how they are interdependent. Make sure to review your vocabulary and notes each night. ** Coach Books are wonderful ways to review vocabulary and concepts. 

Math ~
Fractions
During our fraction unit, it will be very important for students to take notes and keep them save. We will be learning about how fractions show parts of a whole, improper fractions to mixed numbers, mixed numbers to improper fractions, equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, comparing and ordering fractions. 

Social Studies~

Civil War 


Adventures In the World of Reading

This year we will be starting a brand new reading program. 5th graders will be reading in different genres!! Each quarter students will choose a novel from a different genre, read it, and create a interesting book report. (Book Report choices are listed in our classroom). 

Students will attend the Reading Reward and be able to drop their lowest test grade if they have completed a 'Fabulous Fifth Grade' Book Report!!!
