Welcome to Mr. Woodward's
One final thing, it is time for a “treat bag” for the kids. I would like to send them home on Friday, October 31. If you could/ would like to send things in, please have it at school by Wednesday, Oct. 29. Some ideas include: pencils, individual snack cakes, crackers, juice boxes, erasers and candy. The kids will decorate their own treat bags, so those will be provided for them to decorate. We do have 20 kids in the class. On Thursday afternoon, I will put the bags together after school. You may start sending things in any time.
The kids had an overall good week last week. We are continuing to work on cooperating with one another, but we are doing a MUCH better job.
This is the last week of our quarter. This is the last week that the children can earn their AR points for this quarter. Keep encouraging your child to read their AR books and take their tests. I will also be finishing up with our assessments.
The kids will be out of school next Monday, October 27. I will be sending home a note concerning conference times next week. The conference should only last 15- 20 minutes. I will be having these next week and the following week, prior to the time report cards come home. I will be able to meet prior to school, 7:00 and after school, 2:30- 3:30. More info will be coming home later this week.
The children will also be bringing home their agenda home nightly. This is a place that you can see their homework and spelling words for the night/ week.
If your child has lunch money, they may go ahead and take it to the cafeteria and have it put on their accounts.
Our lunch time is 11:26. If you do come and have lunch with your child, please sign into the office first.
The children need to be responsible for earning their points. Encourage them to read their AR books and take tests on these tests. Ask your child how many points that they need and how many they have. The children also know that it is just not about their points, it is also about earning 85% on the questions. They should not me missing more than 1 and possibly 2 question on each test. If they are, they are: reading the book too fast, not reading the book carefully, not reading the questions and choosing the best answer, or the book maybe too difficult for them.
Keep sending in empty ink cartridges and Box Tops.
HOMEWORK:
The kids will have one worksheet each night: language arts or math, read 15-20 minutes a night and study their spelling words. The kids can read anything at home: picture books, chapter books, kids magazines, library books....... If you need books, let me know and I have some older basals that have stories in them. After your child reads, write down the title and your name. I will send home a "Reading Log" or you may just write down the information on a piece of paper and send back to school on FRIDAY with four nights of reading on the paper. The reading log doesn't need to be sent in everyday of the week, just on Fridays. Please ask your child questions about the story they have read. I will send home some sample questions that you can ask about the story.
Classwork and grades:
In class, we do alot of different types of work. These include reading, math, social studies, science, spelling and other paper. Some of these I do take grades on. Not all papers have a "grade", instead they may just have a "check" on them. Things that have "checks" may include homework, morning work and some reading/ math pages. If the math or reading is something we worked on is class, it may just have a "check" or may not have anything on it.
Just a reminder, you are welcome to come to school for lunch, but please go to the office to sign in.
