Counselor's Corner

It's February!

This month's character trait is Honesty.

Kindergarten, and First Grade classes will listen to the book The Empty Pot by Demi.  After the story the classes will discuss the little boy and his honesty.  We will talk about how his choice to be honest affected his life.  Then we will talk about what might have happened if he had not told the truth.  They will also draw pictures of their own "empty pots".

Second and Third Grade will listen to a story called Fifteen Honest Coins told by Sang Ye and Sue Trevaskes.  Then the class will be divided into four groups to discuss the story and answer questions about what they read.  Then they will be given a chance to discuss what they would do if they were in a similar situation.  After that, we will read some short scenarios about honesty and answer the question "What would you do?"  Using dominoes and a water/rock demonstration, the class will see how lying can start small and spread out, like ripples in water or falling dominoes.

Fourth and fifth grade will listen to the story The Talking Eggs by Robert San Souci.  Then the class will be divided inot four teams.  Each team will have ten questions about the story they just heard.  They will have time to discuss the questions and then come back together to share their answers with the rest of the class.
