Try using this ideas with your child to develop better comprehension skills.

Comprehension Big Six!

1. Making Connections:  What does the story remind you of?  Maybe a personal experience, another book, a place visited, movie, etc.

2. Questioning: Students ask questions about the text. 

3. Visualization: Students make mental pictures or draw pictures about the story. 

4. Determine the Important Ideas:  Ask your child what happened in the story or what he learned.
