Week of October 13

Well, we finished up The Outsiders last week, and I think I can say pretty surely that it was a hit! Quite a few students commented that even though the movie was good, the book was much better! We all certainly enjoyed the "Greaser Breakfast" - thanks again to all!

This week we are beginning our Media Bias unit. We will be looking at the Presidential election coverage to determine where there is bias, and where there is objectivity. (My guess is we'll find some of both in all the major media outlets. Hopefully, more of the latter!)

Also, students will be turning in the contents of their binders so far (on Wednesday) - the papers should be organized according to their Table of Contents page, which you can find at the bottom of this schoolnotes page, under Flashcards.

The drama continues in our study of The Outsiders! Aaaah, teen angst - always entertaining.

Our t-shirt orders are wrapping up this Thursday - $7 each. Personal checks can be made payable to Bob Guzzo (our printer).

We are also collecting permission slips and money for our fall field trip to Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. The cost is $25 per student, due October 3.

Just in case there wasn't enough going on, we're also starting our Tiger Shark Book Drive to furnish a respectable classroom library for our students. The book drive will run through homerooms - this is a competition, so bring it on! Students will receive one hour of community service for donating 5 books, with a maximum of three hours earned. We will be sending home a booklet this week with lots of great book suggestions, but truly, we're open to anything you think would be interesting and appropriate for our students to read!

Finally, please remember that Thursday Sept.25 is an Early Release day. Thanks!
