First grade is awesome!!! We are having a ball learning! The number one thing you can do to increase your child's confidence and overall academic success is to have him/her read. It doesn't matter if your child chooses fiction or non-fiction books or even magazines. Just encourage them to read regularly and for sustained periods of time (without distraction/interruption). It also helps them to see you reading. We'd love to have you bring a favorite book and read to our class.If you don't have a favorite, I'll provide a book. Just let us know when you can make it. Your child will adore you for it.
We are now doing nightly reading for homework. There are several good questions on the back of your child's home reading booklet to guide your child's interaction with their books. Please sign and return the booklet daily so we can recognize your child's efforts.
We have started an additional behavior incentive program. We are working toward having a Polar Express day on December 17th. The children are earning privileges for that day. A one stick a week mistake is allowed, but children who get more than one stick will not get the "ticket" for that week. So far we have already rewarded a bell and hot chocolate. We will earn the following on the weeks listed: Nov. 10-marshmallows, Nov. 17- pajamas, Nov. 24- slippers, Dec. 1- movie
