SECOND SEMESTER:
EOG's Over!!!. The students recieved the Decade Project information. We will on the computers researching for 6 days. They will then be presenting.

Tuesday May 12th: Complete creating AT LEAST 6 symbols that represent what happened during the 1920's.

Monday May 11: No Homework. Looking at the Roaring 20's and Great Depression.

Wednesday, May 6th: Study for Test. Use study guide, flow map, classnotes, and reading guide for the text.

Tuessday, May 5th: There are 2 worksheets that need to be completed on both sides. Use the North Carolina text book that you have at home. Reading pages 382-389 to complete the sheets

Monday May 4th: We will finish WWI this week and have our test on Thursday. They will have a study guide for the test.
Thursday April 30th; Complete Crossword puzzle sheet about the theaters of War.
April 27th: We have started WWI. Tomorrow the students will hear from a Holocaust survivor who lives in Raleigh. If you would like to join us he should be speaking at 12:30

April 17th: Study for Reconstruction Quiz on Friday.

April 16th: Homework is to complete worksheet 40 about George Henry White

April 15th: Homework is to complete worksheet about Reconstruction and the Carpetbaggers

April 14th: Homework is to complete Worksheet 39 African Americans after the Civil War.

Monday March 30th: We will be presenting out Black Hisotry Powerpoints on Thursday
March 27th Friday: We will have our Civil War test on Wednesday April 1st. They will be working on a study guide for the test on Monday, we will review the content Tuesday, Wednesday they will have the Test.
March 25th: complete the chart and Venn diagram from the primary Civil War documents.
Wednesday, March 18th: Complete map activity worksheet. Label states, then color code the different areas.
Wednesday, March 11: Complete Sectional Differences Worksheet. You will be transfereing the data into pie charts and answering the questions according to the information in the charts.
Monday, Complete the take home test

Friday March 6th you will be using the guided reading notes from class to complete the take home test on Chapter 8 in the North Carolina Book.
From the readings in the US History Book, about the effects of the Industrial Revolution on both the North and South, you will use your two column notes to complete a Venn diagram that compares the North and South's differences and simularities. That will be collected on Thursday March 5th.
Due to the death of my father in law I will be out of town. I have to change the assignments. Please disregard what I posted yesterday!

Thankfully a spot opened up to use the computers in the media center. You will have Monday to creat your powerpoint and it is due FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27TH
February 19th, No Homework. We will be in the computer lab Monday for the students to create their Powerpoints about their African American.
February 13th: We have just spent the last two days in the media center doing the reasearch on an African American. If your student can work on the powerpoint at hme I want them to do so.

February 10th: Tomorrow you will receive your rubric for the powerpoint. (Esplained on 2-9-09) You will have the opportunity to choose from three different levels for the powerpoint. The three levels are 5 slides, 10 slides, 15 slides. The maximum grade you can recieve will depend of which level you choose.
We will be spending the next two days in the media center doing the research. The powerpoints will be completed in the classroom over the next few weeks.

February 9th: Tonight you will have to complete the worksheet The French in North America.
This week we will cover the Louisiana Perchase, and the War of 1812. Thursday and Friday the students will be researching a African American and creating a powerpoint for Black History month.
Friday, January 30th Your students began to create their own states and state constitutions. They will be doing this Monday and Tuesday, then presenting their states and constitutions.
YOUR STUDENTS WILL BE BRINGING HOME THEIR REPORT CARDS TODAY. PLEASE SIGN AND HAVE THEM RETURN THEM ON MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Tuesday, January, 27th. Begin defining words, and putting them in sentences.
The students will bring home a list of words that have to do with the judical system. They need to write the definition of each word and define it. For the whole week the students will have to create a story using those words. The story could be about someone unjustly charged with a crime, or it could be from the viewpoint of the prosecuter. The paper is due Friday and has to be at least one page typed in 12 font and single spaced with the side margins no larger than 1 inch.
They will be writing out the Preamble for a quiz grade by memory on Friday.


Monday, August 25th: Welcome back to school. Each of you should have brought your textbook home.

Thursday, August 28th: Continue to study the states for the test on Friday, September 5th. If you didn't finish your timeline, that means the events, their effects and the illistration in class finish for homework. http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/web_games.htm Is a website that could help you study for the states test.
Look at the center column about the states and choose your level. In level one the computer will call out a state and you have to identify it on the map by clicking on it. Level two you have to put the states one the map. Check it out!!!

Friday, August 29th: Very good first week of school!!!!. If you didn't complete the definitions and using the terms in a sentence from the terms section on page 2 in your textbook, that will be your homework this weekend

Tuesday, Sept 2: Continue to prepare for the states test on Friday. The website above is a great way to practice for the test.

Wednesday, Sept 3: Read pages 6-11 in the textbook, then create 2 column notes for those pages,Complete Geographical worksheet by labeling the map with the correct term.
Study for the states test. You have to be able to identify each state by its shape and be able to spell each state correctly.

Thursday, Sept 4th: States Test is tomorrow. You will be given a map of the US with the states numbered.
You will be given a sheet number 1-50. You will be asked to look at the state and write down the name of it on the blank that has the same number as the state. Spelling will count. If you include the capital it will be extra credit.

Friday, Sept 5th: Read Chapter 3 section 3 and complete the guide. That is pages 18-25 in the text book.

Monday, September 8th: the eight grade counselor will be in all my Social Studies Classes. The homework for tonight is to read Chapter 1 Section 4 in the text, it is about the mountain region the pages are 28-36 and complete the notes.
WE WILL HAVE OUR TEST ON CHAPTER ONE ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH

Thursday, September 11th: Study your notes and sheets for the Chapter one, North Carolina's regions for the test tomorrow.

Monday, September 15th First complete the Section 2 study guide sheet. Start on the side with the summary.
Then complete the Notetaking Study Guide.

Tuesday, September 16th: Make sure you complete the bubble maps for the 7 regions where the Native Americans settled. Then Define the 7 vocabulary words
dialect, clan, matrilineal, consensus, conjurer, immunity. Create and fill in the chart where the rows have the following native american tribes, Algonquin, Tuscarora,Catawba, Cherokee. The columns will have: Meaning of their name, Language, Villiages, tribes, and divisions, Location of group.
On your North Carolina map label the native american tribes in their appropriate region. then for each region list four aspects of their culture for each region.

REMEMBER CULTURE IS the beliefs, behaviors, and traditions of a group.

Thursday, September 18th: Open House tonight from 6:00 to 8:00.
Complete Chapter 2 Section 2 guided reading sheet. the pages that you need to read are on the sheet.

Tuesday, September 23rd; Type out in 12 font and doubled space the final copy of your native american story.
Each student should have the rubric for the story

Wednesday, September 24th; You need to finish translating your story to Native American symbols.
Remember to color it and if you create more symbols create a key on your paper showing what the symbols mean.
The next few days the students will be picking out a historic site in North Carolina. They will be doing research and creating a brochure about that site. This is intended to help your child get ready for the computer test.

Thursday December 4th is our geography bee. For your information this is a school wide competition that your student cannot prepare for. This is the initial round where we pick team winners. The team winner will participate in a school wide competition against other winners of other teams. Our school winner will take a test to see if they qualitfy to compete in the State competition in the sring.
December 9th, Tuesday: The last two days we have been reviewing for the mandated computer test that 1/2 of our team will take tomorrow and 1/2 will take Thursday am.
