Welcome To Fall!

We are having so much fun in first grade! 

The children's progress with learning our daily schedule and routine has been great! This website provides weekly vocabulary flashcards, homework information, what's new in the classroom and important dates to remember. I encourage all students to use the links provided both in class and at home for extra enrichment and enjoyment.

Science:
We will investigate different types of apples.  We will talk about our 5 senses with apples.  We will have fun creating projects and reading poetry!
 
Social Studies:
We will learn about symbols that represent our Country, City, and State.  We will make fun posters with facts to be displayed in our classroom!

Reading:
We have been reading some really fun books.  We are reading together in a reading circle, small groups, and buddy reading!  Second graders come over once a week to buddy read with us material they are working on- they even challenge us to read their book too!
Keep in mind when reading:
--What is schema? (How we relate to the story personally)
--Use your schema to pick books that interest you!
**Please try to read at least 15 minutes every night!

Homework:
Homework will be assigned every Tuesday and Thursday. Assignments will be based on what students learned in class that day in language arts and mathematics. Papers should be turned in promptly the following morning! Additional homework is always available as extra credit, but is not mandatory. Weekly language arts enrichment packets will also be distributed.
