PHYSICAL EDUCATION!

Students come to PE and all ancillary classes 2 days in a row this year

October 16th -  Nov 1st

Kindergarten and 1st Grade:

Students will practice their spatial awareness skills as they play "Changing Sides" and "Airplanes."  In both games, students will be expected to move around the playing area in a variety of ways without bumping into one another.

2nd and 3rd Grade:

Classes will learn to check their heart rate and will be asked to find their pulse throughout class as they engage in a number of cardio ativities.  On the first day, students will play "Partner Tag," in which they have to chase and tag their partner while walking.  They'll also play "Pit Stop," in which one memeber of each team must sprint around the field and return to their "pit" and tag the next person.  Students will have the opportunity for a short break before they get tagged again and must complete another lap.  On the second day, classes will play Crows and Cranes, further practicing their movement, chasing and tagging skills, in addition to to learning about basic football elements (the role of offense and defense and the endzones).  The class will be divided into two teams, each team taking a turn as Crows (offense) as they try to get into the endzone on the other side of the field, and Cranes (defense) as they try to stop the Crows from scoring by pulling their flags.

4th and 5th Grade:

Students will learn to check their pulse using the carotid artery (on the neck) and the brachial artery (on the wrist) and learn to understand why their resting and active heart rate can be a helpful tool, as they play CARDIO Fitness (students will have to draw a card which corresponds to an exercise they must do).  On the second day, they will continue to check their pulse as they play Touchdown.
