November 9-13 2009

Dear Parents,

We have a lot of exciting things coming up this month. We will begin collecting cans for the Can-a-thon. The Can-a-thon will last until November 30th. Also, this week we will have our preview day for the fall Book Fair on the 11th. Students can purchase books from the Book Fair on Thursday the 12th through November 20th.  If you would like your child to have their picture retaken, that day will be on the 12th. Encourage your child to practice their math facts and read each night.

 

**Come have lunch with your child on Thursday and you can shop at the book fair. **

 

Book Fair Hours:

When: Thursday, November 12th – Wednesday, November 18th

Time: 8 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Extended hours: Monday, November 16th open until 6:30

          Saturday, November 14th open 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

 

Language:  We will focus on Informational Writing. 

Spelling:  Compound Words.

Reading: We will continue reading our novel: Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing

Math: We will focus on Chapter 10 Division

Social Studies: Chapter 3-4 Explorers

Science: Chapter 4 Sound, Light, and Color

Weekly Spelling Homework

  • Turn your completed work in by FRIDAY, late work will not be accepted.
  • Label each assignment.
  • Be as neat as you can.
  • Work may be turned in early.
  • Below is a suggested timeline to work on homework. It does not have to be done in this order, but each activity must be done by Friday.

 

Monday – Dictionary Skills

1. List all your spelling words in ABC order

 

Tuesday – Subject/Predicate

  1. Write a sentence using the starred spelling words. 
  2. Underline the complete Subject once, the simple subject twice. 
  3. Circle the Complete Predicate and draw a square around the simple predicate (verb).

 

Wednesday/Thursday – Vocabulary word sorts

  1. Follow the instructions below—look for the date!!!!
