I hope everyone had a very happy break! It is time to get back to first grade! We have so much more to learn this year. See ya soon!
A few tips and tidbits: Why do I not see many papers sent home? Our classroom is based on many different types of reading/writing activities and most of the activities are hands on. Your child will be practicing the English language in a variety of ways that do not all require paper/pencil work. Because of this, it is extremely important that your child comes to school each and every day unless ill. If your child does need to miss school and your send a request for work missed, please be aware that there will be very little "make-up" work for this reason. Parents often become concerned when they see their child commonly reversing numbers, letters, and words. Here are some things we do in school to help correct this problem. You may wish to try some of these at home! 1. We print words with the first letter green, to symbolize go, and the last letter as red to stop. 2. We have reminder tags on our desk to help us identify where to start writing. 3. We have number and letter lines attached to our desks as easy references. 4. We ask the children to correct reversed numbers and letters. Please have your child do the same on all homework sheets. 5. Draw a star where you want the child to start a word. 6. Practice writing letters that are commonly reversed such as b and d over and over again. Homework assignments are meant to be brief reviews of that days work. They should not take more than 15 minutes to complete. If your child is consistently spending more time than this on homework, please let me know. We will need to discuss this and figure out what the problem is. I do not want to see anyone getting frustrated! |
