Dear 6th Grade Parents,
This week we will continue The Game of Life. Students have received a salary. They are creating monthly budgets based on that salary. Fractions, decimals and percents are used to create a circle graph from their budget. I think everyone is having a good time with this and they are learning about what it costs to live. For instance, if I buy a pet do I have to buy food, too? What if I can’t afford the food? I can’t buy steak if I only make $1000 per month or I can’t afford a universal remote if I only make $1500/ month.
On the final test that covered everything we studied for the whole year, over half of the class passed the test with a 70% or better. The others were not too far behind. This is a decent retention rate considering they did not study for the test and I did not help them with questions.
I am looking forward to seeing your children next year in Pre-algebra. Have a great summer.
Sincerely,
Monica Cassidy
