November 16-20

F.Y.I.:

  • The cafeteria is serving Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday the 19th and you are invited to eat with your child!  Kim Fillers, the cafeteria manager has asked that parents and other visitors RSVP by Tuesday so she can get an idea of how many guests to expect.  On the menu:  Ham, Turkey, sweet potato casserole, corn bread dressing, cranberry sauce, seasoned green beans, roll and cake.  The cost for guests will be $3.75.   If the cafeteria is too crowded, you may come back to the classroom to enjoy your meal with your child.  We hope to see you!
  • Thank you for your patience with the change in progress report date - we sent them home on Thursday.  Hopefully Mrs. O'Bryant feels better and can return to school on Monday.
  • We will be having a Colonial Fair/Celebration of Learning on Friday, November 20th for the 4th grade.  An information sheet went home with your child.  We need donations of materials to make this successful for the children.  And as always, we would love volunteers to come help if you are able!    My rotation needs dinner rolls (preferably  not  the brown and serve kind since I don't have an oven in the room), little Glad containers (tiny round ones), and heavy whipping cream (or a Publix card to buy it the day before).
  • Science project update - see below for details
  • PENCILS NEEDED!!  Our pencil supply is running short...if you are able to send in some boxes of pencils, the kids would really appreciate it.  We are finding the Ticonderoga pencils brand (yellow with green top) sharpen very nicely in our sharpener, but have not had good luck with this year's supply of the regular Dixon brand pencils.
  • Thanksgiving holiday November 23-27 - enjoy the break!
  • O'Bryant and Udy weekly folders go home on Tuesdays.  Please look for them on the new day and remember to initial the conduct calendars after reviewing them.   Students must return them to school the next day.
  • Please feel free to access my webpage whenever you need and use the resources available.  There are good sites for extra practice worksheets that even include the answer keys for you.
  • PLEASE continue to work with your child on their math facts.  Your child's success in all topics from here on depend on their mastery of them.  This is not something that can be accomplished entirely at school - they MUST work at home on this as well.

Homework:

In class happenings may require homework assignments to be adjusted.  Be sure to check your child's homework agenda if they tell you it is not the same as what is listed online.

Students should continue to practice their multiplication facts every opportunity they can.  ALL topics throughout the rest of 4th and 5th depend on the mastery of these facts.  Fact fluency cannot be accomplished entirely at school - WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

Monday -

  • Math:  Test Tuesday - division practice sheet (bonus half), practice mult. facts
  • Science:  SG 3.1

Tuesday -

  • Math:   none
  • Science:  SG 3.2

Wednesday

  • Math:   study math facts
  • Science:  watch weather report tonight and be ready to discuss weather systems

Thursday -

  • Math:  practice mult. and division facts
  • Science:  Everybody Talks about it (weather terms)

Friday -   Colonial Day!!!

  • Math: practice mult. and division facts
  • Science:  do all of your chores, be nice to your little brother or sister, and  do the dishes after Thanksgiving dinner

Class Topics:

Math:   We will take our test on division on Tuesday, November 17th.      Students need to be able to identify the quotient, dividend, and divisor in a problem, as well as know the simple division facts (the multiplication facts they have been practicing), and be able to solve problems with one digit divisors and 2 or 3 digit dividends.   They will not be able to use the red cards (facts chart) on the test and the cards will no longer be on their tables as of December 1st.  This deadline is to encourage them to commit their facts to memory and not rely on the cards.  After the test, we will explore geometry - this should be fun and easy for the kids - they remember a lot from 3rd grade.

Science:  Chapter 6 test corrections can be made starting Tuesday.  Please have your child use their book, notes, study guides, vocabulary sheets, chapter summary, etc. to fix their answers.  Corrected tests are due by Friday, November 20th.  Half credit will be given for corrections - for example, if your child scored an 70, they can potentially fix it up to a 85.

Science Project:  Our next two project deadlines will be completed in class together on Tuesday and your child's photos will  be sent home so that they may use them on their triboard display.  If your child did not hand in their data and photos on the 6th, they may still get half credit by turning it in this week.  Until we discuss how to assemble the triboards, please do not begin constructing the display.   A notice will go home letting you know the date and time of the Celebration of Learning for the 4th graders to show off their projects.

If you ever have a problem or concern, please do not hesitate to contact me.  You can send me an email through this website or directly at kudy@mcsdga.net.  I look forward to working with you and your child this year and with your help, we will all have a fantastic learning experience!
