Mrs. Anderson's 4th Grade News Nov. 9-13, 2009 Announcements: 1. No school Wed., Nov. 11 in honor of our veterans. 2. Extended day has started on Mon. and Wed. for students who have signed up. Our Class Mission Statement Mrs. Anderson's 4th grade class will be on or above grade level by the beginning of 5th grade. We will do this by practicing in class and at home, paying attention, setting goals and tracking our progress, and working as a team. This Week's Objectives: Math- 1) To evaluate variable expressions. 2) To find the solution to equations by testing values. 3) To write and solve number expressions Writing- 1)To write a complete essay that is organized, focused, and uses good transitions. 2) To edit for capitalization and punctuation. 3) To revise by adding elaboration and details. Reading- 1) To make inferences and draw conclusions. 2) To use context clues to define words. Science- 1) To explain what produces sound. 2) To describe how sound travels. HOMEWORK: Spelling- spelling soup (15 pts.) Math- study vocabulary and math facts; math computation (see download at bottom of page) Reading- study new vocabulary words Spelling Words- (consonant clusters) shred through sprout sprawl split throb throat shrink screw shrimp screech straighten sprang shriek splashing straps strain strand script thrill Bonus: threaten Reading Vocabulary 1. temples- buildings where people can worship 2. dynasties- families who rule for a long time 3. heritage- values and traditions passed down from one generation to the next 4. preserve- to keep something safe 5. overjoyed- very happy * Please make sure your child's planner is signed and homework is complete each night so they can have their name entered in a drawing. * Studens need headphones to use for various computer programs. They can be purchased in the school store for $5. |
