Mrs. Anderson's 4th Grade News Nov. 16-20, 2009 Announcements: 1. Parents, please send in your homework from student-led conferences if you have not done so already. 2. Extended day has started on Mon. and Wed. for students who have signed up. Our Class Mission Statement Mrs. Anderson's 4th grade class will be on or above grade level by the beginning of 5th grade. We will do this by practicing in class and at home, paying attention, setting goals and tracking our progress, and working as a team. This Week's Objectives: Math- 1) To write and evaluate expressions that involve multiplication and division. Writing- 1)To write a complete essay that is organized, focused, and uses good transitions. 2) To edit for capitalization and punctuation. 3) To revise by adding elaboration and details. Reading- 1) To make inferences and draw conclusions. 2) To use context clues to define words. Science- 1) To explain what produces sound. 2) To describe how sound travels. HOMEWORK: Spelling- spelling soup (15 pts.) Math- study vocabulary and math facts; math computation (see download at bottom of page) Reading- study new vocabulary words Spelling Words- words with /or/ and /ar/ door dart fort morning carpet ford core cord spark award smart charge worn argue stormy bore guard ward warp barnyard Bonus: charcoal, forecast Reading Vocabulary 1. hillarious- something that makes you laugh a lot 2. convinced- you've accepted someone's views 3. mischief-something amusing that may cause trouble 4. independence- when a country can govern itself 5. handy- easy to get to 6. whirlwind- a storm with circular wind 7. dizzy- hard to keep your balance 8. nowadays- happens int he present time * Please make sure your child's planner is signed and homework is complete each night so they can have their name entered in a drawing. * Studens need headphones to use for various computer programs. They can be purchased in the school store for $5. |
